Thanks PD for linking it.

MarkusBass, the former owner, has a better understanding, vocabulary, and ear for the tone variances and he said this about the DS vs split P pickups: "It's more open and has a larger frequency range to my ears."

Others have said a DS is more responsive to variances in technique also.

Dark stars are very cool looking. To my ears they are the exact opposite of split P pickups which are warm and midrange-y. DS pups are more in the family of Chi-sonics, and Gibson Grabber/Rippers in that they are deep and clear. I know that that I'm lumping things together that aren't exactly alike - that's why I'm calling it a family.

I hear ya PD, but DS's and Chisonics still sound like a P when placed in the P p'up position, just a different kind of P.

I'll bring my 4 Ps w/ me to the next GTG. I have one of the new '70s Fenders w/ blocked maple neck, the coral Lakland neo punch P/J w/ a Warmoth birdseye neck (at last GTG), my '51 Fender reissue w/ 2 SD 1/4lb single coils, and the seafoam DS.

i scored a tc RS212. lay it on its side, lay the 2 210's on top of that and it is an incredible wall of sound. i may bring it.

no new basses tho..................but i am thinking of getting one of those fender pawnshop reverse jags. everybody seems to hate it but i love it coz its a lefty bass strung backwards. perfect for me!

My name is Scott - I'm the bass player for a Knoxville band called Alien Love Charm.

I'm putting together a charity event to benefit the Joy of Music School here in Knoxville. If you are not familiar with them - have a look at their web page www.joyofmusicschool.org - they provide free instruments and music lessons for kids that might not have the means to do so otherwise.

We have corporate support from WIMZ 103.5 lined up thanks to Jay McDaniel, one of the night time DJ's there. Jay Mac also sings with the Dirty Dougs and fronts her own band here as well (Jay McDaniel Band). WIMZ will be promoting the show on the air via Jay Mac's night program - she is on from 6-10 PM Mon-Fri (sometimes 6-midnight) and does a promotional local music show on Friday nights on the air as part of her on-air act ...

The theme for this gig is going to be a tribute to the music of Pearl Jam. What we envision is having 4 or 5 local bands playing a few songs each of PJ's with a couple of solo acoustic acts in between bands as we are shuffling gear on and off the stage. We will have a backline in place of drums, 500W of bass rig and a couple of guitar amps to keep the hubbub to a minimum ...

We have Preservation Pub booked for this gig on Friday, October 5 and Bernadette is VERY fired up about putting it on - and we intend to pack the place.

And now ... what we need, is you. We have my band and Jay Mac's of course, one solo act and WIMZ 103.5 on board. If you're interested in participating please get in touch with me. What we're trying to do is not duplicate any tunes over the course of the night and really make this a good evening of music to benefit a great cause.

Open mics are all over town although they are typically for songwriters playing acoustic guitar. Springwater is a hole in the wall where people can often sit in with electric instruments. Don't know much about who is booked there but if you Google it you can probably get that info as easily as I can.
I have no clue where an entire band could play on short notice especially for NAMM weekend. The clubs book that well in advance.
Sorry, I know that's not what you want to hear. Maybe someone else has better info.

Hey guys!

It's shaping up to be a hot busy summer! My new band project is about to take wing, so schedule's will soon be cramped.

When should the next GTG be? June is about gone, July is gonna be smoking, does early August turn anyone on? Maybe August 12th?

I need input, I have to reserve the church building if we are okay with having it there again.

Please cast your ballots yeah or nay, and I'll look into another date.
