Two weeks is a long time for an item in the same timezone. I did have one where the post office lost if for a long time, but eventually found it. But I had shipping info showing that it had made it to the post office and a couple of steps along the way.
"The money vanished from my account immediately" - I get that some folks think having pay-pal attached to a bank account is better than using a credit card. They happen to be wrong - you have many more protections with a credit card in the case of things going wrong. Then again, PayPal nearly always sides with buyers, if it comes to a dispute. But having a credit card and only using it when you can pay the whole purchase off as soon as the bill comes is safer yet, at no extra cost.
You've evidently not known about the main ebay status page, and might also be sending ebay-related mail to spam - with most sellers there's a certain degree of communication, or at least updates from ebay that an item has shipped.
