EBMM Retro 70's Stingray Club

Been trying different string on my Retro 70’s and thought DR High beams sounded the best until I tried these.
These strings were meant for this bass. Simply amazing

Got mine a couple weeks ago, in white. Seems like it’s the most unpopular color of all, but it immediately caught my eye and it was the obvious choice for me!

Really happy about it, I tried a bunch of different Stingrays before (Classic and Special but no Pre-EB) and so far this one sounds the best to me, plus it looks amazing! Did a gig yesterday with it and had a really good time.

Here it is next to JB. I’ll try to send some more pics later

Congrats !!! This would be my color choice as well. I would have to change my pg to black for that true retro look.

Earlier this year I ordered a white one, but had to return it due to two dead notes (it was really bad) on the G-string.
Recently, a local shop got 3 in ; black/burst/white and this time I could do a thorough test-run before buying.

There was also a Black 1979 Pre-Ernie available for sale at the same price, so I could A/B the Retro with the the real thing.

I sincerely hoped the '79 would win, hence I was a little biased - But it was no contest to be honest.
First the weight: Pre-Ernie 11 pounds vs Retro 9 pounds.
Second the tone : Both sounded great but the Retro had much more output and the treble knob was less on/off.
Mojo - The '79 wins by a mile, but the Retro will get there in time ;-)

Awesome bass.

I have the black one but would love to own the white one as well. I would put flats on it. My black one has DR Highbeams currently on it.

Hey guys, has anyone played a Retro vs a Classic? I’m curious about the sound differences, but also about the neck. Are the shapes the same? The Classic has a heavy gloss, but the Retro seems to have a lighter gloss…how does it feel? Thanks!

Back in. I had returned mine for whatever reason, I don't exactly recall maybe it was the price, maybe dead spot, whatever. However many months later, it was still up on the Guitar Center wall.

I got permission to polish it up in store and check to confirm nothing other than fingerprints. Neck shifted a little in pocket, a little screwdriver tweak (again with permission) locked it in place.

Got home and tuned up, found the dead spotaround G string 6-7 fret that was probably why I brought it back.

Tuned down 1/2 step, and zero issues. I've only played e standard with a few weeks here and there of drop d in late 90s. Feels and sounds great just have to get used to the notes being offset by one in comparison to what I was used to.

I only have the one stingray in hand but it feels better than what I remembered of my classics. I think it's less thick but I am going on recollection and never had chance to compare at the same time.

After a little more quality time with mine, I figured out my initial dissatisfaction. I couldn't get it set up to my liking and got frustrated with the playability given the price point.

This time around I did some research and realized the culprit was the neck angle needed to be adjusted via the micro tilt, which required decoupling the neck. On mine, the neck plate opening is too narrow for a wrench that will adjust micro tilt. I guess some people have this issue and some don't, mine's a 2 digit S/N so maybe it was something they didn't catch right away and either changed the neck plate opening or the micro tilt. In any event, I've got the action nice and low and hopefully never have to think about touching that part of a setup ever again now that everything's cool on it.
