The other thing about that clip was I was using a new pedalboard preamp, a TrickFish Trilobite, which I'd just received last Thursday. It's so good! Everything on the bass was flat. Sometimes I wish there was an active/passive bypass on these. Ah well. Thanks for the kind words. I'm working on my playing and my physical appearance. Not that there's anything wrong with it, but I'm not trying to become the stereotypical blubbery bass player...:bag:

3rd gear ( as I like to call it) was sounding great with your band. :headphone:

I appreciate that. I've got more work to do, but I'm getting there.

Yeah, I had a Noble for a couple of weeks. It sounded amazing, but the TrickFish Trilobite is just so much more versatile. And I think it sounds 98.7% as good as the Noble, while being WAY more flexible! There's a certain, "sweetness" the Noble has, but this'll get almost all the way there, give you a ton more options, and cost less money doing it!

Honestly, anything that involves Mike Pope is probably going to sound amazing, and this preamp delivers! Other than the great build quality and the incredible customer service the Trickfish guys are doing, the routing options and the Damn-Near-Perfect EQ points make this thing worth the price of admission. Getting a preamp or an amp that will do loud, dirty rock is actually quite a bit harder than it seems. That was part of my issue with the Noble. It sounded great, but not dirty, loud rock great. It sounded studio/gospel/R&B great, but that's not what I do. The TF Trilobite will sound great if you're gig is smooth jazz, but it'll sound just a great if you're gig is modern rock covers. It feels like a keeper...

One thing about these 'Rays, it seems like with the EQ changes EB made, it's a bit more of an effort to get semi-dead strings to "speak up". On my F Basses and on the Spectors I had, a lil bit of creative EQing could get a couple of extra shows out of a fairly worn set of strings. On these, that seems to be a bit trickier proposition on an otherwise, outstanding instrument. We play a lot, so I use up strings pretty quickly. I probably need to start the string quest again...

I must be so amateur for bass sound as position 3 is my favourite and go to. I play through a 4x10 cab from a Hartke LH1000 with the limiter on and the mids on +3 or +4, bass on +1 and treb-1.
I boost the mids 3/4 of full on the SRHH5, trebs flat or just up and the bass boosted to a bit higher than the trebs, prett much mimicking the head settings. From here I can boost the bass or trebs or cut as necessary. This seams to gives me lots of flexibility and I almost never vary the pickup selection. TBH it does seam like I'm at the edge of what the bass can give in terms of mids from here but I don't think I need any more and am perfectly satisfied with this setting. Actually, it is the exact tone I've been longing for pretty much my whole life and if I want to rumble my guts out, I crank the little bass knobby on the SR5HH and enter into what can only be described as earth shaking bass bliss Nirvana.
