Agreed, their business is not a direct-to-consumer operation. Handling such orders would be a disruption. If I were at EBMM, I would have argued for the higher price based simply on the market value of an official EBMM part. They do underprice their replacement parts — I had a replacement pickup ordered from EBMM for $100, well under the price of a Duncan or Nordstrand replacement.
Just pulled a set of Pressure Wound’s and replaced them with LaBella Flats. Man, I’m in love all over again. First set of flats in many years. Didn’t need to adjust the truss rod at all. Had to raise the B string saddle to make up for the different winding and tweaked the intonation a little and we’re back in action.
La Bella flats are great strings. I've just ordered a 6 string set for my SRS 5H. I'm going to re-tune to EADGC, while retaining the option to go back to BEADG later.
Still want to try both pressure wounds and flats on this bass. Which reminds me! I have some Labella flats in the parts bin. Always hold onto your flatwounds.
There's Guitar Center in Turkey? Nice! Stick with it man. Stingrays are pretty awesome. Guitar Center has a great return policy. 45 days, no questions asked. Might be different for international, I don't know. But if it isn't, scan the GC used inventory online. Find something you like, order it and check it out. If you don't dig it, return it and repeat.Went to GC to test the H Stingray 4 today, also a customer came with a maple HH Stingray 5. Played them all, the tonal difference was day and night with my bass.
When i played all the basses on flat EQ, my bass greatly lacked mids compared to the others, you hear boomy bass and slightly more treble on mine. The others had more focused and balanced tone. Also my bass seem to have lower output at flat EQ even with the correct pickup height same with the others.
My bass is still not a bad one on its own, however when compared with other Stingrays, it sound bland.
If i set Mid at 70%, Treble 40% and Bass 45% on my bass, it sounds "almost the same, still different" with the other basses with flat EQ. So long story short i got a highly mid scooped bass than normal. I dont know why there is so big difference.
In the end i havent exchanged the bass, because although the H Stingray 4 sounds better, it had lots of scratches, dents on both body and neck and so it has a low resale value as well. (maybe thats why it was $400 cheaper than mine)
Here in Turkey its hard to find another MM Stingray 4 (people prefer 5 string MM more here) and with a reasonable price. So i have to stick with this one if there is no other solution. I did all the necessary setup you guys mentioned.

Hey Groovegestapo, just saw this. I'm sure they didn't as well. It actually wasn't a lot more for Mike Lull's shop to glue the frets. Maybe your local shop can handle it? You mentioned getting it Pleked. They'll have to glue the frets before they can Plek it.
My bad sorry.The closest shops to me are Roscoe guitars in Greenville NC and Glaser guitars in Nashville. There is a place called righteous guitars in Atlanta but they mostly do guitars and have a 1 week turn around.

That's not a Stingray Special and this is the Stingray Special Club but let me take a shot at this. STRINGS. I think you need to try several different strings, types and brands before you give up on your bass. I did like the Pressure Wounds but found them a little too “zingy”. The tension was ok although the B string was a bit weak. I was surprised to find the B string on the LaBella set sound and feels pretty good. I’ve read otherwise on some post in the strings forum. YMMV.
Maybe the guy was mistaken....but the price quote on a black pg was at least twice as much as the other colors. It's the main reason I waited. At the point I hadn't even received the bass yet!
The Labella set I have, I had on a Fender American Standard Precision V and thought the B string sounded/felt great too..... I also like a lot of movies that get a horrible rotten tomato review. Just goes to show ya, you gotta make up your own dang mind.
