Mine is most certainly active. 3 band, 18volt preamp, same as the one with the other stingray specials. The passive stingray you may be reading about is the new short scale.

Mine is most certainly active. 3 band, 18volt preamp, same as the one with the other stingray specials. The passive stingray you may be reading about is the new short scale.
Technically all of the Stingrays have passive pickups and then the preamp is the active part. With the shortscale there is no active preamp though. The only other EBMM musicman basses that I can think of that were passive are the recently discontinued cutlass and caprice.
Right I figured out what they meant after looking at it on my computer and not my phone.
I'm gassing really hard for this one at the moment.
Any drawbacks?

I have that exact bass, and I love it. I had to install a Zero-Mod thumbrest though, to be really comfortable with it.

If I was being really picky, I wonder how the black hardware will age in 10 years. But my guess is that it’d be just fine.
They really are killer basses, that finish is so cool.

I saw that coming. Think I'll go for the HH, which solves the problem where to put my thumb, and it's the same price as the single humbucker version.

I’ve had mine for about 8 months or so, and it feels, plays & sounds wonderful! The new preamp is impressive too. One thing to be aware of is the string height on some examples have been delivered higher than some folks care for. It’s a minor thing that most players can remedy themselves, or through a tech. I’ve also noticed that the bass is a bit more sensitive to different string gauges/tension. Again not a big deal, and it may just be unique to my particular bass. These really are fun basses— enjoy!

Exactly! I pulled the trigger last night.
By string height, do you mean relief at the nut? If so, I have a tech nearby who can rework the slots if need be. But I'm sure it's gonna be fine.
@Wolfhound32 I love this finish! This color was my first choice for my 4HH, but the wife has though for 20 years that I owned a red bass. Up to this point I had, in fact, never owned a red bass. So I felt it necessary to keep her from thinking she was going crazy, by purchasing a red bass

great bass ! Everytime I see that color I kinda wish I pulled the trigger on it hahhaa.
I agree with your comment regarding how they come setup. I ordered my specials from 2 different vendors. 1 came setup exactly how I like it. the other one which went through the famed 5 thousand point inspection needed some adjustment. It was nothing major but it took a couple of days to work out as im a slow truss rod turner. 1/8 of a turn and ill leave it for a day.
these are great though, I got one setup with flats which is have overtaken my pbass as my #1 and the other with rounds.
