EBMM StingRay Special Club

Now, I did not mention other differences between my two Specials. The HH is rosewood, the H maple. It could be that, but I’m not up for such a discussion. The pickup height is not exactly the same, for sure. Maybe I don’t change the strings often enough on the HH. Their respective ash bodies may be of different densities — or maybe one is an early unannounced switch to alder or poplar. For sure one is blue with parchment and the other white with tort (sorry, no sparklie basses here). That’s it, of course, that blue is mellower than white!

After getting the HD Yellow I decided I wanted either a Harvest Orange or a Smoked Chrome to go with it.

After speaking to an EBMM rep and realizing I was going to have to wait 4 months for the Harvest Orange and finding a Smoked Chrome at GC, the decision became quite simple. Especially since I have a friend at GC who hooks me up big time.

It is really hard to capture just how nice the finish is on the Smoked Chrome. My friend at GC said it looks like he is staring into the galaxy. That actually is a pretty good description.

Anyway I just wanted to share some pictures since I am way beyond happy right now. :hyper:

I recently acquired my first Stingray special 5H, and I’m really impressed with it! I’ve had an 88 SR5, a 92 & 93 SR5, but ended up selling/ or trading them. I used to love how they recorded in a studio setting, but sometimes live, it seemed like the treble could be a bit harsh at times.. The new Stingray special 18v pre, & Neodymium pup, really sound amazing, i installed a set of DR pure blues 45-130, and it sounds amazing! The Stingray growl is all there, but with a more musical and refined, smoother tone Imo. It takes nice low, buzz free action, and is a pleasure to play! I’m very impressed..
I have several festivals on the books again this year, and while at times my Modulus Quantum 5, & Tobias 5 string will be played, I’m excited to get this Stingray special out and cranked up!
I’m playing in a modern country band and I believe this Stingray special will sound incredible live. EBMM really brought the goods with the new Specials!

I finally tried EB Slinky’s 45-100 on my Special…I’ve had Sunbeams on it since I bought it. They do sound pretty good, only slightly stiffer than sunbeams, a bit more upper mids and edge, but less warmth. I’m not sure which I prefer, I kind of like them both. Sunbeams overall have more bottom and are a little more flexible, while Slinky’s have more bite and edge. I can see using either set depending on the gig.
