EBMM StingRay Special Club

The Killface! That's another one that has intrigued me. I love my EXH Bass Soul Food, which is Klon-inspired, so the Killface is especially interesting because the two videos I've seen make it seem noticeably darker sounding than the BSF, not quite like the Beta, but still relatively darker. It might suit me even better than the BSF. But, for some reason, I never bought one and I've only seen a few pop up for sale here.

I have about 7 or 8 drives that aren't on my board, so I definitely don't need any more. But I gotta think about this ....

These are my usual go-to strings; if you happen to find the time to experiment, try the 50-105 bigger gauge EB cobalt rounds. For the dirtiest, fattest funk fingerstyle basslines I've found them to get the job done. In my experience, the coating on the cobalt rounds wears off pretty quick but they're some of the best sounding strings ever... I'm back to regular EB Nickel Plated as of late for a change :)

+1 on the Killface. It really surprised me. I hate fizzy pedals and prefer a subtle OD and it delivers big time.

I’ve tried the aforementioned flats, NYXL, Pure Blues and now regular Slinky’s and I agree, they’re the best ones for this bass.

I do like the sound of Slinky's but they never last long enough for me...

Stingray sounds best to me with fresh string sound. Usually DR High Beams last me 6-8 weeks but I'll probably be changing them once a month on the Stingray.

If I was using Slinky's I'd probably change them every 1-2 weeks

I don't kill em that fast. Maybe 4-6 weeks?

Cobalt flats sound great on my 4H maple Special. I believe the original strings (rounds) are still on my Amethyst Sparkle with rosewood (purchased used), but I'll probably put the Cobalt flats on it at some point. But I'm a flats fan anyway, and use them on several other basses.

Is it a coating on the regular cobalts? I thought it was just a different alloy recipe. Anyway I love them on my SR5 so I got another set for my L2500. Great piano like clarity even with the B. Im sold on these strings.

To each their own. I think they sound best with DEAD strings. I’ve had a set of slinky’s on mine for over a year now (hundreds of hours of playing).

If they would give them wider spacing I would be all in on an SR5. I just can't jive on that narrow a spacing. I've had a few 5s I loved and could adapt to the narrow spacing but then I'd play another one of my basses with 19mm and the difference in feel and ease of play for me was substantial enough not to keep them.

I’m not a full blown 5 string guy. Having really only played 5s for about 2 years. What I find interesting is that I always cared about nut width on 4 strings and now I don’t care about nut width as much as string spacing. I think I measured mine at 18.3. It works great for me but I could see how 19 would have advantages

I think each person's anatomy plays the most important factor in spacing preference. I've got big hands and the extra room let's me play more accurately and comfortably.
