How sweet it is!! Honestly I usually don’t care for that finish but you have changed my mind .

That finish is great!

Also not a fan of this finish, but for some reason looks great on your bass. The roasted maple makes it pop for sure, I love it.

Thank you. The edges vary from blue/grey/purple in different light. The neck is fantastic. EBMM makes great five string necks. I thought I would miss the series wiring of the humbucker that the H models have, but the dual single coil options more than make up for it.

Thanks! No, it's not painted. To be honest, with my typically conservative taste in finishes, a painted headstock may have actually turned me off (and I love the look of roasted maple too). This is wild enough for me

I'm usually the opposite. I don't mind natural wood, but I don't like black basses. Not that I don't think they look good, I just like something that pops more. My SR Special 5 is the closest I'll get to black. It's a Ginger burst finish:

That's an awesome finish! I just can't do finished necks - not that they're unplayable, but they're certainly harder to play than a satin or natural neck. Just my preference.

It's been a while since I weighed it but I feel like it's in the 8 lb - 8.5 lb range if I recall correctly. Definitely very comfortable to play.

SR5 owners - Just how much/little room do you have between your G string and the bevel of the fret? I just picked up my first SR5 (first 5 string ever actually) and the G string when pressed sits right next to the bevel, especially on the lower frets. I'm slipping off the fretboard a fair amount so it will require some technique adjustment for me.

I've heard people talk about not having much room for the G string on the SR5s, but I picked up another at GC a few days ago and noticed that it had a good bit more room than mine. Pictures of both mine and this one at GC are below for comparison. Which is your SR5 more like?

My apologies that the angles of the pictures aren't the same.

I did try the neck alignment technique of loosening the neck bolts and pulling up on the neck under tension. I didn't get anywhere with that but I could try again.

Probably not related, but there is a considerable neck pocket gap in this SR5.

The fit on the other side isn't exactly tight either.

The older StingRay 5's are known for the outer strings being right at the edge of the frets. However, the new StingRay Special 5's (starting in 2018ish) have a little more room than the older versions.

I've seen at least one player locally who had a new nut installed and cut in such a way to pull that G-string in a bit more from the edge. He was happy with it, but some folks are very picky about string spacing...

My SR5 special was my first string as well. When I first got it I was sliding off with the G and B. I had poor technique. But after a little time and practicing with different muting techniques, settling on using my pinky to mute the B, it almost never happens.
