If given to know, is there any chance to see new colours for the Rays?
I’m thinking about getting a Special 4, to make a pair with my Classic 4, because the 5 is just so good when playing and recording..but current finishes don’t make me 100% enthusiast

Not really. We aren't even sure when they will introduce finish changes. Is there something specific you would prefer? If you like the classic natural ash or white you will have to find a used one. Have you seen some former finish options that you would be interested in?

I have to admit I'm also not a fan of most of the current color options. That's why I went back to a 2018 color on my recent used purchase.

If I was buying a new one, I like the black and maple (although prefer silver hardware). That's about it.

The current colors are cool, but they're not what I want for myself. The Burnt Ends is my preference out of the current choices, and maybe Snowy Night. I could deal with some of the others but I would need a good deal to entice me.

However, I'm head over heels in love with the 2019 Vintage Sunburst Special that I just picked up a week ago. I know not everyone likes bursts and that's fine with me. But I love 'em, so I was quite happy to find that one, especially at the price I paid. Plus I did an in-person deal and got to meet another local TB'er, which is always a plus.

Sterling Ball once complained that no matter what color they make people don't like it and that they should just stick with white, red, and black.
Then over the years they released a ton of cool colors and some in heavy flake so I never was sure what he was referring to.
Imagine the pricing if they offered a lot of colors as it's $2,500 for a factory made, non-custom, bolt together parts bass in a few colors.
I really like the product and the QC but that's getting very close to custom bass pricing.

Seems to me there should be new colors being announced soon but then again I said the same thing last year about this time. Other than Burnt Ends none of the current colors appeal to me whereas a few years ago I don't think there was one in the bunch that I didn't have goo goo eyes for.

Well, I’m a Fender player and I’m grown with Fender colours (love almost all the custom colours, in their shade).
I’m not really into black instruments, and things like Snowy Night. Among th actual offer, the finishes I like the most are Speed Blue and Amethyst Sparkle, but i don’t dig the black hardware.

My classic 4 is natural/maple, while my Special 5 is a Ghost Pepper/ebony one. I think I’d consider a rosewood/ebony fretboard Special, I like their feel under my fingers.

It’s a matter of compromises, I suppose.

So why not get amethyst sparkle if you like it. I happen to think it is the best finish they have ever offered and I think the pearl pickguard and gold hardware are a perfect match. The rosewood is beautiful too.

I was ready to pull the trigger on the Sterling purple sparkle also but the faulty black tuner reports killed the deal. I did pick up a Ray 24CA in Toluca Lake Blue and sold my Daphne Blue Sterling short scale which I never bonded with to help fund it. It's no EBMM Special by any means but I like the way it feels and sounds way better than the Sterling short scale and since it wasn't $2000 plus dollars I don't feel the need to baby so much like I do my two Specials. Yes, I'd also like to see some new sparkles, bring them on!

I actually saw an SBMM Purple Sparkle Ray 35 in person and I have to admit, it was stunning. Beautiful bass and the tuners seemed fine, but I am not interested in a 5 string and I'm not ordering one until I hear the Tuner issue is corrected or I can inspect it personally. I don't want to take a chance on possibly getting a bad one. I'm also in no hurry since I'm still very satisfied with both of my SBMM Stingray 34 HH's and EBMM Stingray Special HH's.
