Wow. I remember when those Autumn Red basses were out. I really had a jones for one, but refrained. Beautiful finish.

That is so classic 70’s styling . I see a a natural Ray 4 and I immediately hear Louis Johnson, Bernard Edwards, and Paul Denman.
Nice figure on that one. I hope it is worthy of a permanent spot in your collection.

Do any of you run a separate preamp when going direct or do you just use a di? I have a Neve RNDI and a Grizzly bass and go ampless when live… Am wondering what you have found that works and what doesn’t with the Specials?

I’m curious, as well, for some other input…I’m usually playing passive instruments live, so use either Sadowsky SBP-1 or MESA Subway Bass DI with preamps engaged. On the occasions I’ve used my Specials, I’ve simply used either wired/wireless — compressor — DI without the outboard preamp.

Amazing! i had the same bass and SUPER REGRET selling it!

I got this guy instead but it's not a special, but still awesome! Only 8.6 lbs.

You’ll get backlash but I think it looks awesome and so did Bernard Edwards. In fact, seeing this picture again made me order a white one for my new stingray.

All - I've been searching for a few hours for a comparison of the Stingray Special EQ curves vs the pre-special, classic, and/or pre-EB EQ curves. I seem to recall someone doing a graphical comparison, but I simply can't find it. Can anyone offer some help?

I did a video comparison of the Special and the Pre-Special on my YT channel, but without the EQ curves.
However, I have the audio recordings of both basses in my files, and can run some of them through EQ analyzer.
You can listen the video and tell me which parts would You like to see with EQ curves.
I can do it (in the next day or two )but not for the whole video. It requires a lot of time...
