EBMM StingRay Special Club

I was seriously considering a Crescendo, but went with the 5 Slugger! Mostly because I found it used and cheaper. Those Crescendo look amazing, though.
If I hadn't just bought the white DarkRay 5 I would have snagged a Crescendo right when they came out. I'll have to wait for a good used deal if one ever pops up.

I ran both of my Stingray Special's through a Mesa Boogie TT800 and a Genz Benz UBER QUAD and UBER 115t last night.
I was primarily using position 4, as usual, but decided to try position 2 as a change. Wow, that sounded really good with the band. Some of the tightness of position 4 with some of the growl from position 1. Definitely need to use that more often.

I always drool over the finishes on your Stingrays. I've never seen either of them out in the wild.
I agree about Position #4. It's the one I have a serious long term relationship with and then I have flings with the others. I do like and play all five, but #4 is my true love on a Stingray HH.

Yeah even right now I am playing through position 4 at home and prefer it quite a bit. But with the band on Saturday that growl on position 2 was really shining through. I ended the night that way it was sounding so good.
Edit: Oh and by the way thanks for the compliment. I really love those two colors. The sparkle is amazing in person and the HD yellow is just plain beautiful with the black hardware.
Looks like one is rosewood and one is ebony. Of my 3 Specials of rosewood, ebony and maple fret boards, I really think I like the sound of ebony the best followed by maple. My next one will be another ebony but in 4H, my current Tectonic Blue sparkle being a 4HH.
Any thoughts on La Bella 760FX flats on a Special 4H? I traded for a Special and they came installed on it. They only have an hour or two of play time on them so I am wondering how they may settle in.
I am seriously considering putting some Nickel Rounds on this bass but maybe they'll come around if I give them time.

It's really hard to put my finger on it.
They seem really bright for a flat wound. I find myself cranking the Bass & Mid knobs and backing all the way off the treble.
They are also a bit "Clacky" but I think that will disappear in a band mix.
In contrast, My P-Bass with GHS Precision flats sounds great no matter how I EQ things.
I am very new to Stingray Special 4H's so I am just trying to get a feel for it. Of course the true test will be in a live setting with my group. That's coming up on Sunday.
I wonder how much the brightness has to do with the strings vs the nature of the StingRay. I too like GHS Precision flats on P-Basses, but I also like LaBellas on P-Basses, as well as Jazz Basses. I have Cobalt flats on a StingRay Special and really like them in that context, fwiw.
Thanks for the info. I’ll break these in for a while and see how they settle in. I played them for 2 hours today and they are starting to grow on me. I’ll give a report on them after Sundays rehearsal. I will have a few more hours on them by then.
I saw a guy on YouTube playing a Stingray with flats. he had the treble rolled off completely and mids on full with bass at 90%. I tried that and it sounded much better.

Thats exactly how i eq both my 5HH special and my 4H 3 band pretty much all the time. I have nickel low riders on the 5 and cobalt flats on the 4, or maybe theyre rotosounds? i forget lol
The yellow has a rosewood fretboard and the other is ebony as @Moonskunk mentioned. BTW I did something today that will probably surprise you as much as I surprised myself.
But you will find out in a little while on another thread that we both frequent.

I have TI flats on my special. I like them a lot. It is what you would expect with flats on any bass, but it does maintain a bit of that "stingray edge". Especially with the 4HH, there is still a large palette of sound to choose from.
Also depending on what you are doing, you can get a really convincing Pbass sound. (So much so, the sound guy at my gig last weekend was surprised when he saw I was playing a 'ray). ;P
Of course 2 basses that I’ve been hunting for show up right after I’ve just bought my daughter a Nord .
