Love that color. It’s the same as my (fairly) new Special. It’s a 5H, too. Photographer did a great job there!

I passed on a 25th Anniversary 5HH around the time I bought my Special last year. I *LOVE* my Special, but, since I already had a Stingray, I wondered if I should have gone for a more diverse collection and gotten that instead? One of the things that made me decide on the Special was the weight difference. My Special, a 5HH, weighs only 8.3 pounds and is my lightest bass. A four set gig is almost effortless. The 25th Anniversary I passed on was 10.5 pounds, as much as my L-2500, which I can feel after a four hour gig.
But, who knows. I still might decide to grab one someday if the opportunity presents itself. But I can't see selling either Stingray to get it. They're going nowhere.
Hardly anyone posts there anymore (I checked a few weeks ago) but back in the old days Big Poppa would get really mean spirited over the simplest of questions or comments.I wouldn't bring up that idea on the Ernie Ball / Musicman forums if I were you...
EDIT: Seriously. For anyone who doesn't know what happened when that topic (19mm spacing on a five-string Stingray) came up on the Ernie Ball / Musicman Basses Forum, it did NOT go well. Bring it up and you could be banned from the site. No, I'm not kidding.
I once mentioned that a Duracell (which is slightly larger than most 9-volt batteries) may not be the best recommendation for older basses (mine is an 83') as it was a force fit in the cavity. That did not go over well.
I totally get that EBMM pays for the bandwidth and resources to support the forums and it's respectful to keep that in mind (i.e. don't use the forums to promote other brands or to be uncontructively critical of EBMM). But there was arrogance from some on that forum that I wasn't crazy about - and keep in mind that I'm a huge EBMM fan. So I never spent much time there and can't remember the last time I checked in. Doesn't mean I won't ever again, but I feel like I get more objective info here.
All I'm going to say is that I stand by my post!Are you dropping hints ??? Hmmmm.....

Yes - noticed we have the same (impeccable!) taste - I think I got mine just a little ahead of you (story in this thread here) - colour is awesome and really brought out by the blue and green lighting! My first Stingray and loving it! Is it your first Stingray too?

No, this one is my 5th one, believe it or not. I had a 1999, a 2000, a 2004, an a 2011. All SR5s, all great basses.
I went through phases of having one, then selling it to get something else and regretting letting the Stingray go. But at the time, they were fairly easy to find used. The last one I had was the 2011, my first one with Alnico pups. It was a tad bit "tamer" than the previous models, but I still got what I wanted to hear from it. Beautiful bass, a bit heavy. I tried to buy it back from the buyer and thought I has succeeded, but he changed his mind at the last minute. That turned out fine because it led me to this Stingray Special I have now. Very happy with the tone and the weight.
And this one is definitely a keeper!....

I don't know what color the other pg was, but that whole thing looks slick.
I played out with my new amber Special again Friday night, and had some difficulty seeing the black side dots on the roasted maple neck on the dark stage. Anybody else experiencing this? It's not as bad as on my American Original Fender '60s Precision Bass, but still kind of an issue.
I haven’t played a Special on stage yet, but I tend to stick to maple necks for better on-stage visibility due to their color contrast. I can definitely see how the roasted maple, with its worse contrast, could make things difficult.
I’m grateful that mine with figured roasted maple have white dots ( Crecendo) and no dots ( Fretless ) .
Wow, I had never noticed the white dots on your Crescendo before. If asked, I would have said I thought the Crescendo fretboards were markerless.

I'll admit that getting my fretless has really changed the way I play. It is more about muscle memory and feel now for me. My eyes go cross trying to look at the fingerboard on that bass. I can admire its beauty and 3d like figuring. But not while playing. It's really best not to look and just close my eyes and hope for the best.

I would like to eventually try fretless again. I've owned three so far never really had the time (made the time?) to get decent enough to keep those basses. I sold two and converted the third to fretted (my parts Jazz)! I think playing fretless will likely have to wait a few more years until I'm no longer encumbered by a job. LOL. But, yeah, I get your point and it makes sense.
I'm fortunate to have the Amethyst Sparkle and Cruz Teal basses with more visible dots, but I also don't want to neglect the Amber. My Burnt Apple Special also has the black dots and roasted neck.
I got through the whole night with the Amber one and didn't pull out my backup bass, but the invisible dots were kind of a bother.
Perhaps you can get some white side dots to add to the side of the neck or even to cover up the black dots on the fretboard. I think they have some glow in the dark dots that can be added as well. My Sandberg has luminay dots on the side. Im not certain if it's possible, but adding those might be an option too.
