EBMM StingRay Special Club

For those of you that also own 2-band and 3-band SR's

Did the Special become your #1 compared to the others?
Any buyer's remorse that the Special didn't become your #1?
Edit:
And if it's not a Stingray, what is your #1?

I had mine along side my special for probably 3 months. After a couple of gigs with the Special I brought my 3 band and regretted it during soundcheck. Everything about the Special is streamlined, it’s more comfortable, lighter weight, more versatile, and more full bodied.

Sold it after that gig and recently sold off my other two basses and grabbed another special.

It’s all totally personal though so best bet is to get your hands on a special and see what you think.

Someone made a comment in another thread that Specials sound like Bongos rather than Stingrays. Thoughts?

I owned both simultaneously and often brought them both to gigs. Very different sounding, but there was definitely some tonal cross over. The bongo has an ultra clean hi-fi sound to it.

The Bongo is to the Special as the Jazz bass is to a P-bass.

Hopefully that helps haha

I’m pretty new to TalkBass, but here is my Charcoal Sparkle Ray with a roasted maple neck. I love it!

So do I!!!:woot::hyper::drool: First time I’ve seen that combination. How did you end up with maple instead of ebony? Do tell !!

That beauty of the maple with the charcoal sparkle is almost as shocking as when I saw tort with charcoal sparkle. They both are stunning !!!

Thank you! Honestly, I just got lucky. I found a dealer on Reverb selling it and jumped on it. I commented at the time that I hadn’t been able to find any of that color with maple necks and he responded that his distributor had said it was rare.
Just a case of “right place, right time” for me!

I’ve said a lot of times in this thread that I never appreciated the Charcoal Sparkle finish until I saw one in person and was surprised at how much more colorful and vibrant it really is. But I’ve never seen a picture that captured that, not just in owners’ NBD pictures but even pro shots, like on the EBMM website. THAT picture comes as close as I’ve seen to showing what that finish really looks like.

And combined with that neck? I never knew they made a Charcoal Sparkle with a roasted maple fretboard! :woot:
