Finally got a chance to put on some headphones, grab some wine and give this an attentive listen. That is a super cool jam. I think your SRS is perfect there. The sound reminds me a little bit of a very early Cure record, which I mean as a compliment, where there is a lot of suggested space. Thank you for posting this. I love hearing what we’re all doing with our Specials!

Definitely missed them in the 90s. They sound a lot like Georgia Satellites.
Your bass looks great. That charcoal sparkle was actually my first choice but all GC had in the HH was the Dropped Copper.
Cobalt flats finally arrived, better late than never 
There’s loads of threads about them on TB, but in a nutshell they are the most ‘roundwound’ sounding flats out there - or something like that. They are a compromise string for me, I love flats as my default but want more of a rounds tone, but don’t want rounds, these mix the two.
As with any string I’ve experienced, they can work great on some basses but not on others (YMMV), I previously loved these Cobalt flats on a Lull PJ4 but not a 79 MM Sabre.
I find most flats need a few months bedding in before they can be truly judged....but so far so good! Great smooth and even tone, awesome slap sound, nice pick sound, great in all 5 positions of my HH Special and as soon as the annoying sticky feel wears off they’ll feel great! Fingers crossed they’ll still be this good once they’ve worn in.

I envy teenage players that may get one of these as their first MM. I got my first used Stingray at 18 (many many moons ago) and used it for years, but eventually sold it due to the weight. If these Specials had been around, especially in a HH, there’s no way I would have sold it. I’ve always been a MM fan, but struggled to fully bond with 4 Rays, 2 Sterlings, 2 Pre EB Sabres and 2 US Subs, some for tone and feel, but all due to the weight.
Not anymore though

My experience as well. My Caprice and my Stringray5 Special are the most comfy , easy playing basses I’ve ever encountered. The necks are fabulous.
How a bass feels is equally important to how it sounds and looks. When you are able to obtain all 3 of these attributes on a single bass, you have keepers.

Thanks for new string update. And big “yes” on how good the Specials are! It feels so right, both the neck and overall ergonomics. Definitely keepers!
To me, it feels more like a vintage instrument than a brand new factory instrument. Minus the dings.

The feel of this roasted neck on the SRS 4 is most perfect... for me anyway!
