Lousy photo, but stopped at a GC and they had a few Specials in stock. They were set up horribly but you can tell the upgrades are great. The finishes look way better in person than in photos. Ok - I take it you mean you hate the way it looks? I can respect that. But I am a HUGE fan of any green/black combo.

As promised here are the pics of my black/maple SR5 HH Special with a new pickguard from QuickGuards:

Here is a close-up of the finish. It's called red florentine. It's a very fiery, (red-orange), color. What the photo doesn't show you is how metallic it looks. The dark and light spots are from tiny ridges in the colored substrate. They will move around as you move around. This similar to a moree effect.

And for those with keen eyes, I did notice a tiny crack near one of the screws after I installed it. It is hardly noticeable. This is acrylic, so I understand how it can happen. My concern is that it will spider. I am going to contact Mike and see what he says about it.

My Stingray originally came with a clear scratchplate, and that had some "spidering" right from the get go.

I don't think it got too much worse (obviously a different plastic, and finish from yours, so kind of a moot point here), and I've been tempted to put it back on - but I have to admit, every time I changed the artwork beneath it, I did get a bit nervous when it came time to break out the screwdriver.

Ahhh, got it! and thank you Now the only thing I'm wondering if that specific green (Charging Green) looks right with a black pickguard like those other basses I posted? I guess I'm just going to have to see one in person to decide. If not, my other color is the charcoal sparkle. I just wish it had the roasted maple fingerboard instead of the ebony.

Mine finally arrived today. It was delayed 2 days because of the fires .
I’ve been busy cooking thanksgiving dinner all day. Might have time to install it later tonight .

I now understand why this pickguard is so bright. As night fell, and I turned down the lights in my studio, I realized the fiery red gets to be more like the color of burning embers. If it looked like dark red in the bright daylight, it would likely be almost black in low light. As is, it is really nice in low light.

Would love to help out, but it’s over to eBay dispute process now about my Cobalt flats. And at £46 a set I’m not taking any chances buying elsewhere just yet.

I don't have a scale but I'm gonna guess it's under 9 pounds definitely lighter than my previous Stingrays.

I really like the contrast of the blue sparkle and black hardware/ebony neck

Initial impressions:

I spend a good half hour-45 minutes with one a couple weeks ago in my local GC and was sold then and now that I have mine it's much of the same.

The lighter weight is definitely a plus my old SBMM Ray35 was 11 pounds and was a real bear by the 4th set plus i'm not a big guy either.

Great tone from the new electronics. A good deal less harsh and bright than older Rays. The HH setup is new to me having only had the H setup before and I can see it being a big advantage for getting multiple tones. The front pickup isn't a hindrance for slapping at least not for me. The trade-off is not having the parallel/series function but you get a bunch more sounds.

The neck is a thing of beauty just feels so good with the roasted maple neck. I'm not sure if it's unfinished of a satin finish because the headstock had a finish but it's just smooth. One of the best necks I've ever felt.

Unfortunately I'm off this weekend so no field report but I did run it into my rig and compared it to my current Sterling 5 and it blew it away. All in all this is my new #1 bass. I still need my Fender for my tribute band but hopefully I'm good with all my other gigs!
