Mine was too heavy @ 11 pounds
So ended up selling it

Wow! It might be the lighting in that picture, but the tort seems to change the appearance of the bass quite a bit. It looks much bluer than I remember Charcoal Sparkle looking in person.

I like it, though.

Looks great. Charcoal sparkle varies just like Starry night, depending on how the light hits . Both are beautiful finishes .

The weight wasn’t bad on mine but the electronics were super hot and even with the pick up cranked all the way down it was still overloading everything way more than my other bases did.

Yes… to me was normal that every time I had to change the gain settings in my amp/pedals when I used that bass… but the weight and inconvenience of it all made me sell it…

Hi, everyone. I've been lurking on this forum for about a year (since I picked up a jazz bass last summer). I recently bought a 2023 Stingray 5H Special in Purple Sunset and just love it. It's so light at 7 lb. 15oz. My primary instrument is drum set, but have been really loving learning to play bass over the past year and enjoy playing jazzy soul/funk.

I'd say use whichever you prefer. I have used both and didn't feel much of a difference with a tapered one. 99% of the B strings I've used on the SR5 have been regular (non taper).

Not tapered but one thing that made a big difference at least to me was using a .125 low B string instead of the .130 found on most sets.

To me .125 sounds way better

I’ll have to keep that in mind, as I usually like 45-105 on 4 strings so that generally puts it at a 130 B string

If you think about it… the difference between strings on a .45 to .105 is .20 per string. But the difference on the 5th string is .25.
I’ve used strings that way for many years never thought about it until I’ve tried it and to me I can feel the difference. Prefer the .125 for sure….

I am not much into custom pickguards, but this one looks phenomenal.
I saw the picture a few months ago when the bass was for sale on TB.
The pickguard was made by Quickguards.
