I appreciate your kind responses on the weight conundrum, folks. The reason I asked this question is because it was such a perceptible difference; yet, it didn’t make sense to me. It sort of defied logic and I am not a delicate flower. So, I was a bit perplexed.

This is the first time I ever noodled on an EBMM Stingray. I went on a short-scale “hoarding” spree a while back that included picking up the Sterling passive Stingray model, which is a fine instrument for the price point. But I was really blown away by the craftsmanship of the special that I played. I can see why this is a $2k+ instrument. And while I need to get my tiny two knob P-bass brain around the four controls, I do agree with you folks about the intriguing tonal possibilities this brand offers, in addition to the sexy finish options. So, I am still going to continue my research as the GAS has NOT dissipated.

BTW, a few of you noted that your HH models are lighter than the H. Might this be a function of slightly less body mass because of the additional control cavity routing for extra pup? I would like to track one of those down too, as the only HH that I own is a 2015 Gibson Thunderbird, which is the only version of that model with funky pups that have the “chunky” pole pieces similar to EBMMs (but MUCH less desirable ergonomics).

I’ve got a 4H Burnt Ends that weighs in at 7.68 lbs. I don’t recall ever hearing about any 4HHs that weigh in less than that.

First gig tonight and it was amazing!!
My stage area is kinda a mess.
It was a brewery but we had several hundred people there throughout the night.

My amazing new Stingray has a rattle sound on the E string when played open. I just noticed it after I put my strings of choice on it yesterday. I have these strings on my other 4 EBMM bases. Two Stingray's and 2 Bongo's without any problems.
I put a small piece of paper towel in the nut slot for the E string...and rattling noise is 90% gone. I'm thinking the nut slot for the E string is cut just a little bit low. I have a call in to Kris at customer service. The next 3 months is my bands bustiest time of the year with close to 30 gigs booked. I was hoping to use this bass for the majority of them.
I can use it but it bugs the crap out of me.

Have you tried changing the angle of the saddle by adjusting the posts? I had a similar thing when I went to a lower tension string (TI JFs). Played a bit with the angle of the saddle to make sure both feet were contacting the back plate well, and that took care of it. That basic Fender bridge design with no slots for the saddle feet and the perpetually loose saddle springs kind of drives me crazy a little bit because of stuff like that. But, it's light, so there's that.

It's weird I can't really hear where the rattle is coming from.

Just the other day with my Special 4H Open E String had a rattle; thought of nut but had been fine for 10 months

so checked neck relief[I have/had it set at .008] found neck had moved slightly more strait; approx. 1/8 turn of truss rod fixed it.

You might want to give Willcutt Guitars a shot. They have a nice selection of Stingray Specials (weight are listed). That’s where I got my 8.13 lbs Grape Crush from.

Thanks for the suggestion. I will check them out. Your grape is a cool looking bass. I am drooling over the Kiwi green, which has a similar “metallic” (?) finish with the black hardware.

Regarding their custom colors; I doubt so - they’ve been offered for quite some time. Perhaps some sort of custom order offered for certain dealers.

I’m not big on certain greens . I didn’t care for the dargie green EBMM fans seems to like so much. But the Kiwi , Charging, Sweetwater exclusive Emerald Iris, and Frost Green look nice.
