That's such a a pretty finish. Very classic and classy looking but also ... different.

EBMM StingRay Special Club

This is my favorite of the new colors. Beautiful bass!
So has anyone else ordered through the custom design experience? I saw some more stills from the announcement video that are really making me want to take the plunge
Last week I did, ordered a fretless 5HH.
That is sweet, it was my other choice but I went with the Hot Honey for my 5hh.
Purple Sunset and Hot Honey are 2 of their best finishes ....ever!!!

Hello “special people,” I am experiencing GAS for some of these sexy new Stingray specials, with the killer color schemes (and the cool painted head stocks). I was hoping that some of you might kindly share some advice based on your experiences with these instruments. This would be the most expensive bass that I would own. So, I am trying to think this through before pulling the trigger.
I have ways been a Leo guy, with several precisions, a jazz, some mustang pjs and a G&L fallout. I went out to GC today and played one (H) that I think is in what they call “jackpot” gold(?). An amazing bass even though the hardware bling is not my thing - subtle gold flecks in the black finish, beautiful flame maple neck and great tone. What has thrown me for a loop is the weight. I gathered from postings in this list and EB product descriptions that the specials are lighter. However, after playing it today, I grabbed a Fender American performer precision and it felt considerably lighter.
I have never considered an American P to be dainty. And Sweetwater has the weights of the above two bass models as almost identical, in what they have available online. So, is it me or can the Stingray specials (H) feel a tad heftier than a P-bass?
Sorry if this is a “duh” type question. I look forward to getting some thoughts from those of you, who play (or have played) both P’s and Stingrays. I have my eye on one at MF and they don’t post weights.

The 4 string Stingrays on Sweetwater currently do seem heavier than normal. Probably because all the lighter ones got bought already
The Specials are definitely lighter than the pre special Stingrays. If weight matters to you than shop around and be prepared to wait.
My SR5 is 8.9lbs and feels great. Weight is not a huge deal to me though as long as it is under 10lbs
I was able to get mine ordered just before it was officially announced at NAAM. I didn’t use the configuration process. I went straight through EBMM.I think I may have been the first
My 5 string special weighs 2lbs less than my 4 string 4 pbass.

I think it' kind of a crapshoot. My new SR 5HH weighs 8lb 4 oz, 2+ pounds less than my Wal. I am hoping like hell that the fretless 5HH I just put in an order for is as light or lighter. Unfortunately, you can't request a light piece of wood. It's good you're a Leo guy, as this is his greatest invention.
Same boat, my hh special is by far my lightest bass. I say go for it! It is an incredible instrument, the neck feels unreal and there’s so many tonal options you’ll never be bored.
I’ve seen more light weight ones than I have heavy ones. Kind of defeats the purpose of the redesign if the bass needs weight reduction.
Being nuts, I now have five Specials. While I don't have exact weights for them, two of them (Amethyst Sparkle and Burnt Apple) are super lightweight, two (Transparent Amber and Black) are slightly heavier and my Cruz Teal is the heaviest of the lot, bordering on too heavy. So there is a degree of inconsistency, but none of my Specials weigh as much as some pre-Special StingRays I've had.
I appreciate your kind responses on the weight conundrum, folks. The reason I asked this question is because it was such a perceptible difference; yet, it didn’t make sense to me. It sort of defied logic and I am not a delicate flower. So, I was a bit perplexed.
This is the first time I ever noodled on an EBMM Stingray. I went on a short-scale “hoarding” spree a while back that included picking up the Sterling passive Stingray model, which is a fine instrument for the price point. But I was really blown away by the craftsmanship of the special that I played. I can see why this is a $2k+ instrument. And while I need to get my tiny two knob P-bass brain around the four controls, I do agree with you folks about the intriguing tonal possibilities this brand offers, in addition to the sexy finish options. So, I am still going to continue my research as the GAS has NOT dissipated.
BTW, a few of you noted that your HH models are lighter than the H. Might this be a function of slightly less body mass because of the additional control cavity routing for extra pup? I would like to track one of those down too, as the only HH that I own is a 2015 Gibson Thunderbird, which is the only version of that model with funky pups that have the “chunky” pole pieces similar to EBMMs (but MUCH less desirable ergonomics).
