EBMM StingRay Special Club

NBD today… long time admirer of the Stingray (like 20-something years long) but this is the first one I’ve owned.

Genuinely hitting myself for waiting so long - what an amazing instrument! And the purple sunset colour is just insane.

After a decade or so of plain black and white basses, it’s nice to have one that’s a bit more flamboyant for a change.

I’m now trying to fight off the urge of more Stingrays 😬

Sweet !!!

Its completly different, its 18 volt and 3 band, the pickups are also different mangnets as well. All EBMM prepriatary.
Thanks. To you and everyone else, question:

Are the newest StringRay 5 Specials (HH) still capable of producing this exact tone/sound with their new pickups and new preamp (sound at 12:29)?

If so, how would you personally achieve this? (Already got answers in another thread but always want to hear from everyone.)

That’s a Bongo so not the same.

But can the new StingRay 5 Specials (HH) get the same tone or even close? (I hate the Bongo looks but love a particular StringRay 5 Special and LOVE that tone in the clip.)
Different preamp and H/S which is hard enough to find on a Bongo. I have a Bongo and a Special but both are 4's. They're in the same family but VERY distinct. The Bongo, to me at least, sounds closer to the 2 band EQ 'Rays.

Darn it! Why did you have to go reawakening my GAS for a Purple Sunset by posting this stunner? Seriously, enjoy this beauty in good health. You made a great choice!

I find the Bongo and StingRays (Special, pre-Special, Classic) to be different beasts entirely. Not in the same neighborhood. But reproducing that sound, exactly, I think that might be more pedal than bass. So, I suppose one could get that from a Special. YMMV — or maybe I don’t know what I’m talking about.

After a few years of eyeing the Amethyst Sparkle Rays it might be time to take the plunge. I'm not rushing anything as I'd need to sell some gear to fund it but I'm torn between the 4 and 5 versions - I think having a low B is extremely helpful but I have a strong dislike for the larger teardrop pickguard design. For folks who've taken the plunge - is that design something you got used to? Should I just accept getting the 4 and having my Spector RST 5 on hand as well?

Life is hard.

Sweet! When did you order yours? I have an order for a 5HH fretless that I put in in late May. Hoping mine's around the corner.
Goodness, you placed your order in May?
I did not know these took so long. Have you gotten any updates from them?

Side note…
I just put some Ti flats on my new Stingray Special and oh man it sounds even more killer!!!
Ti flats + ebony fretboard + MusicMan electronics is just a killer combo.
