Interesting that it has old bridge, neck contour and only 9v (so old preamp?)

Wow, I like that second one even more than the Hot Honey.
Pretty sure its just a "stingray" instead of a stingray special since as you stated pretty much all of the features of the updated special arent there, so the pickups are likely not neodinyeum and the contours and lighteight tuners and stuff prob arent there either.
Yeah, that is what the description says as well, it has the Alnico pickups and older tuners.
Cool for a limited run, I love the look (although I prefer the Special's upgrades)

The first bass designed by Ernie Ball Music Man, the Stingray 5 was unveiled in 1987 and has been an industry standard for extended range basses ever since. With its powerful punchy sound, the added flexibility of additional pickups and a comfortably contoured body the StingRay5 satisfies even the most demanding of players. This Vault Exclusive StingRay 5 features the electronics and hardware reminescent to the 2008-2017 era including the alnico pickup, 9V 3-band EQ preamp and Schaller BM tuners. The incredible birdseye figured neck is adorned with black outlined Mother of Pearl inlays and includes the famed 12th fret BFR inlay that was phased out in 2013. Ships in the Mono case and exclusive to the US.

This is great for players that prefer the more aggressive original StingRay5 sounds. I think it would have been great if they could have put these features in the updated Special 5 body . This is indeed a nice throwback. I wonder how much it weighs?
Beautiful bass, but not my cup of tea as I happen to think the StingRay5 Special is the best 5 string bass EBMM has ever made.
As hard as I love my Rays. The G String is a pain in the a$$.
I play in a Tribute Band where I have to use the G string quite often, and with fast licks, the string keeps slipping from the fretboard, because it´s so close to the edge. I have to learn an other playing style

It will probably pick back up as players start to receive their Design Experience orders and new products are released.
Last I heard , another release of short scales was due in October .

I forgot if I posted my Special 4 here so here it is :
All I know is that I enjoy my 3 Band Specials just as much as I do my passive short scale , and my 2band old Smoothie .I stopped watching this thread recently
To many '2 banders ' asserting all here that have a 3 band their Bass is inferior and in some post Crap
I have Special 4H so stick to Special thread
I have no love for the 3band Pre Specilal Stingrays . But there’s enough love to go around for whatever ones heart desires.
Basses are not one size fits all.

Nevermind Yes agree play what you like but no need to assert what you like is superior as a fact or dismiss there has been great recorded tones and in the wild of all versions of Stingrays even the 2 band

Stingray Special still my fav sounding and playing 5 string regardless of if people are posting to TB!
I don’t know if it’s the new design or what ….. but yes, it’s kind of lost its appeal . Can’t say it was all of a sudden. I’ve been wanting to spend more time being about it rather than talking about it so to speak.
Maybe I'm just set in my ways, but I feel like I'm spending less time on TalkBass since the redesign. I'm not exactly sure why; the redesign wasn't all that radical.
Its completly different, its 18 volt and 3 band, the pickups are also different mangnets as well. All EBMM prepriatary.
My 5H did an excellent job with my cover band last night. We do a pretty broad mix and I definitely found the toggle switch to be handy - neck position for the older and warmer stuff and full on bridge/old school stingray setting for the heavy and funkier tunes.
Pretty bass! It looks great under the lights.
