I just put some Ti flats on my new Stingray Special and oh man it sounds even more killer!!!
Ti flats + ebony fretboard + MusicMan electronics is just a killer combo.

Yep, May 21. it did say 4-6 months, so I'm well with in the window. I actually heard back from MM yesterday. My bass is 'in the final set up department and will be ready very soon." YAAAAAY.

Well, the Wal actually led me to the Stingray. First, it's heavy. Like, heavier than most SR's, I think it's about 10.5 lbs. Second, well, you see the prices Wals are getting lately? Not something I wanna take out to every gig - I still play it but I'm a bit choosier about where. I have a friend from way back who used to be a J player and then went SR evangelist. So that also piqued my interest.

So, I was thinking lighter, pro-quality production bass with big buckers? Well, here I am. I don't feel like I'm making a drastic tonal leap when I go between the Wal and the SR. Sure, they're different, but they also add some tonal consistency.

This is my third Stingray Special, and all three have been of outstanding quality. I think that their preamps are some of the best!

After a few years of eyeing the Amethyst Sparkle Rays it might be time to take the plunge. I'm not rushing anything as I'd need to sell some gear to fund it but I'm torn between the 4 and 5 versions - I think having a low B is extremely helpful but I have a strong dislike for the larger teardrop pickguard design. For folks who've taken the plunge - is that design something you got used to? Should I just accept getting the 4 and having my Spector RST 5 on hand as well?

Life is hard.

I was not a fan of the 5 string pickguard either until I bought one. Now I love the look of it.

I actually prefer the one on the 5, I think it compliments the body contours nicely.

Oh, I know! I plan on having this be my main axe for my electric jazz trio (the 6 fretless can be daunting), and it'll be here in time for my next gig.

We headlined a three band lineup at a Woodstock-themed festival at a local winery this past Saturday. So I wanted to use a bass that at least looked like it fit that era and that job went to my Special. It was a treat playing it through the PA so I only needed one of my cabs on the stage as my monitor. I thought it sounded fantastic but I also got great feedback from the sound guys.

Since the event was Woodstock themed and we learned a bunch of new songs specifically to fill two hours with songs from 1967 to 1971, including a bunch that were played at Woodstock, I thought it was worth going all in and dressing for the occasion…..
