EBMM StingRay Special Club

Had my third gig with the Special + Cobalts last night and I'm beginning to think that they're not the strings for me - I had to dial down the high and mid knobs at least halfway to get a tone that worked, and when I switched to my Spector for the second set everything felt and sounded better instantly. They sounds great when practicing with headphones but don't seem to fit the gigs I have lined up. I'll swap the old rounds back, and cross my fingers that those make the bass sit in the mix better.
I just switched back to Colbalt flats on my Special and I think they pair very well with the Special. Mine were very bright at first but I fixed it by stretching the strings fret by fret. I did two rounds of stretching the strings and they sound wonderful now.
Curious what everyone plays their Specials through?
My main sound is the Sansamp dbbi v2 going into a Fender Rumble return loop. So basically the preamp of the Rumble is bypassed and using the power amp section to drive the speakers. No rumble tone is used.
I use the MXR preamp when I want a 900k mid boost. The first DCX bass is always on and set to the edge of breakup when I dig in. The second DCX is a heavy overdrive. Corona for chorus. Cali76 is always on for light compression. HPF for when I need it. Korg tuner.

Since our guitar player, who was handling our sound, left last summer, I got volunteered to take over the job (I never did sound before!
). So i don’t bother bringing my pedalboard right now. I have to bring more gear now and spend more time setting up, so my pedalboard is more of a distraction for me a hole I learn the job. So for the foreseeable future, I’m going straight to my amp. So I go: bass -> wireless -> Mesa Subway D-800+ -> Two Barefaced Big Baby 2’s

I wonder if any of you have ever encountered a situation where the truss rod of a brand new bass guitar is very difficult to turn and adjust? Last month, I bought a Purple Sunset color bass guitar. After unboxing, I felt that the truss rod was unusually difficult to turn when I was adjusting it! The same was true for both the left and right directions. I thought the truss rod was just a little dry, so I turned it hard and finally adjusted it to a straight neck curvature. Unfortunately, when I picked it up again at night, I found that the back had cracked! I have successfully returned the product and asked the merchant to reorder, but the delivery time is estimated to be very long and unpredictable. This bass guitar has only been in my hands for 20 days... I learned from the Chinese dealer that the truss rods of all newly produced Stingrays are difficult to turn, even the John Myung signature model Bongo! I wonder if friends overseas have such a phenomenon? ? I strongly suspect that this is a common problem for basses produced last year!

I’ve owned more than a few. Never had any issue like that. Quite the opposite actually. Truss is smooth and responsive

I, too, have had a few Stingray 5s, including my current Special 5H. Never had a truss rod issue, either.
That doesn’t mean it’s not gonna happen. Sorry it was you this time.
I can only echo what others have already said - I haven’t noticed that on my Special. Hopefully you can get it resolved.
But, I also can’t resist congratulating you on such a beautiful bass. The Purple Sunset is one of my favorite finishes on the Specials. Very unique but still conservative looking. EBMM knocked it out of the park with that one!

Your experience is more common on Sterling Ball ( import line ). Not the norm in USA EBMM line.
EBMM will make it right under warranty .
oooh I am very excited for this new release from Sterling. finally a 5 string darkray! my bass player is ordering one so I can do a direct comparison to my usa version.
