True, could be a bit of an optical illusion.I'll agree it does look like a lighter roasted maple. But the black body may also be helping it to look even lighter.

love it! Black and maple is so nice lookingI’ve just bought my first 5-string bass, and ofc it’s a Stingray Special. Regarding the colour, I wanted something classic this time, so I went with black and maple.
Looks and plays phenomenal, played the hell out of her for 4 hours straight. That B string is so tight and so smooth, absolutely love it! And weighs just 3.6 kilos – she’s the lightest of all my Stingrays. Was worried about the narrow string spacing, but actually I pretty much dig it, just had to readjust my brain a little bit. Here are two pics after our first long run

Yeah when I owned a SR5 I never noticed the problem either.Yeah, I was hesitating a bit, but turned out I don’t have a bad technique after allHaven’t even noticed that „problem”.
I've posted many basses where people comment on uneven gaps between strings and fretboards and strings being too close. I wouldn't notice playing them.Yeah when I owned a SR5 I never noticed the problem either.

Ugh, beautiful... just not in the cards ($) at the moment. I've got a beautiful burl Maruszcyk I could trade (4 string) so I need to start watching the classifieds for people not looking for straight cash. Thanks for reminding me of the classifieds! There is one in the classified with a lighter roasted neck

When I saw this look on the BFR Slugger, it has really grown on me. At first it looked out of place. But when it is done right, it is a great way to dress up the bass.Ooooooo ... A Stingray 5 with no pickguard but with blocks! Not a lot of those out there, I love it!
