What’s everyone’s action on these? Seems like my saddles won’t let me below 1.5mm on the g

Mine is also very low action with no mods but as mentioned some have changed saddle screws etc

I went to Home Depot and got the tap and dye set, opened it carefully, attached the tap, took the strings off, turned each saddle upside down one at a time and removed the screw, tapped through from the bottom, I went all the way but you could go through as much as needed, blew off the excess metal so not to go near the pickups, rinse and repeated. Made sure not to mix up the screws. Now the bass plays amazing.
Now I’ll return the tap and dye set and get a refund! lol

I bought the 4H and have no regrets. It sounds awesome! I did try a 4HH before I ordered mine but I just wanted the standard Stingray tone. I don’t do a whole lot of fiddling once I find a tone I like. I’ve also got a P Bass if I need that type of tone.

So how would like it with your Mesa D800/Hathor212?

That set up sounds awesome. I used it on my last gig. I like the Stingray much more through the Mesa than my SVT. The quick response of the Mesa just fits the SR better to my ears. Although my P Bass sounds much better with the SVT than the Mesa.

Nope. I only take one bass and one rig. It’s just hard to decide which set up to take. Most places are so small that the D800/Hathor 212 is the best option.

I haven’t tried mine thru my D800 yet, but I do mostly use 210+115 Subway cabs and a GK Fusion 500, extremely punchy great sounding rock rig. That said, lusting for the new 215 Subway cab, 60 lbs + wheels & handle, that I can still toss around when I can’t roll it.

Anyone played the Special through a Quilter BB800? Does that sound like a good match?

I recently bought one after my Eden WT550 crapped the bed. Not in love with it to be honest, though the punch/dollar ratio can hardly be beaten. Thinking about replacing it with a Mesa Subway D800.

I recently bought one after my Eden WT550 crapped the bed. Not in love with it to be honest, though the punch/dollar ratio can hardly be beaten. Thinking about replacing it with a Mesa Subway D800.

I replaced my Quilter with a D800+. It’s much more versatile and has the same type of punch. With the Quilter I could never dial in a tone that I liked. With the Mesa I can get a wide range of great tones.

I have run an Eden WTDI in front of a Quilter, because that allows more tonal sculpting.

Oh my...my my... today was the first time I played my Special nice and loud with drums drool

Due to health issues I’m unable to play in bands anymore, and I hardly ever get to jam. So I just generally play at home on headphones.

But...today a friend and I played, just Bass and drums, and I’m still buzzing. The authority of these Special’s is something else. Reminds me of a Modulus FB4 I used to own. I mostly used the bridge and neck pickup and got some lovely tones. Very happy indeed.

I also took along an Old Smoothie that I unfortunately have up for sale. It was also stunning, in a very different way. Extremely responsive and really nice to dig into, and with an awesome tone. Quite gutted to be selling it, but with a Special in my possession I can’t exactly complain can I?

Anyway. after 3 months of owning it I’m a very happy bunny to have finally played it in a jam session

Thing is, it was just bass and drums. I had the EQ on the amp flat. For the bridge pickup it was bass and treble boosted a bit (60-70%) and with the mid down a bit more (30%). For the neck pick up I had the same on the treble and bass and the mid boosted just a touch (60%).

In my band I’m going up against two Les Pauls that are very low mid heavy. I’ve always used a P Bass that sits nicely under the guitars. The Stingray is much more mid forward so I’m still trying to figure out how to fit in the mix. So far I’m boosting the bass about a quarter past flat and leaving mids and treble flat. I’m also boosting bass a little on my amp. The bassier tone seems to work better for my situation. My Special adds a ton of punch compared to my P Bass for sure.

I have the 4HH. If I want to sit in the mix then I use the switch to bring in the neck pickup. Sorry that's not much help.
