By the way, this is my beloved Stingray Special 5H in action:
That finish looks SO COOL!

You say "bulldozing over the other instruments" like that's a bad thing.I would have to agree with this. The Special is a more "wide-band" instrument. And I have perceived its impact in a live setting. It's amazing in a song with tons of space, but in a busy rock song you have to play a delicate balance between being either inaudible in the mix or bulldozing over the other instruments.
It's no bother, this sort of discussion is amazing and informative as long as we stay objective and don't get sentimental or defensive about our instruments.
Loved the comments about people who hate 3-band-EQs and modern Stingrays in general!
I do love my Special and I know that the bass knob has LOTS to offer. I never go there. It's just a different kind of flavour and I think - regarding only the bass and mid frequencies and how they are implemented on the Special Series - I prefer the old version. But I certainly did not want to encourage this old discussion. I was just looking for someone who felt the same as me. There may not be many, but reading through the comments of the following video I know I'm not alone.
Hello everyone,
I finally managed to finish the video comparing 6 beautiful StingRay basses. I hope you will find it interesting

We both liked those 2 the best. interesting !!!I loved watching this this morning.
Favourites were the bookends... The early 2 band and the special 3 band.
One day I'll get an 86.
I felt like all the wear and the zeromod suggests that's a fave of his too. Seen it in a bunch of his videos.The '89 with the star on the guard is my favourite of the bunch, oddly enough.

@_Obra_ please confirm.
Also thanks for making some of the best comparison videos I've ever seen, been super useful.
One thing I love that you do that nobody else seems to do is playing with tone settings you like that are individual to each bass!
I've found the EQ settings on my special are so drastic I barely move them past off the notch when using rounds. I basically nudge the mid and bass just up off the notch then treble is on, above or below notch depending on what the song calls for.
With flats I found a cool agro EQ setting that was more drastic but it only seems to work with those strings.
Same favourites as me and @LadyLoveStingRay5 ... I'd say we've got a consensus going.First thank You for watching my videos. I'm glad You like them.
Regarding StingRays, the '89 with a star is not mine. Only two of them are mine at this moment, black 2EQ '89 (which I like the most) and Aqua Sparkle Special, which I wanted to sold until yesterday. When I got an nice offer, I just couldn't part with it, so I decided to keep it for now.
