i did try running a compressor before it. No difference.

I guess I'm just not impressed with the ebs pedals. 2 out of 4 were bad out of the box though I do have to say that I love the dynaverb. Probably the best reverb pedal out there though I'm not sure it's worth 2x the digitech's price.

Maybe the OP is talking about the string rather than the pitches on the string.

That being said, my Octabass tracks all the way down to G on my E string.

My octabass will track down to the B on the E string. After that, it is hit and miss. I find that the Digitech BSW will track down to the G on the E string. No clue why anyone would need to go lower than that.

Because if I'm improvising a bass line, I don't want to have to think about which notes my pedal can play or not. It wouldn't be so bad if it just ignored the notes lower than a certain freq but instead it triggers very late on those notes which screws up the time.

I used an EBS OctaBass and it tracked the E just fine. Also tracked the Low B just fine. I even detuned the Low B and it still tracked just fine. Maybe you just got a rare bad one. I'd say go get it exchanged.

I'll say this about EBS Octabass. It's a good pedal for me. I like the tracking and the fact that it gives me a little bit more flexibility than the OC-2. It sounds like the Octabass is not doing what you want. Maybe try the Roland V-Bass system/Korg G5/Deep Impact? I think each of these digital pedals has at least a few smoking octave sounds. I'm hearing a lot of good things about the POG, on this thread and on others. Makes me want to try one out.

PS: didn't you used to post a lot of rec.music.makers.guitar.jazz? I used to be a jazz guitarist in my more pretentious days. I was on there a lot. There was a picking exercise you posted that I teach my students with. A simpler variation of it, actually.

No, really. I was able to detune the LowB and it still tracked. I couldn't go down much (maybe a step or step and a half), but it did work. Not the pedal for a bass that has a string lower than a Low B, but it is a nice pedal.

oh, and have you tried the POG with slap? it's nice...

I've been trying, but living in a city of 300,000 people on the worlds largest island sitting inbetween the two largest oceans on the planet kinda sucks sometimes...

But then I see Bush on the TV and I get happy again... at least until I see little Johnny on the TV and that's about when I barf... but barfing always makes you feel better!
