If it worked once on the daisy chain, then it will work again. DON'T waste your money on new equipment before you properly troubleshoot your current stuff!
I'm just using a daisy chain that I bought from a shop somewhere, says GYC on it.
On the jack it says 5.5x2.5...
it works fine on its own with the EBS and my EHX kit, but not daisychained
I'm all-in on the power supply connector being the wrong size for your daisy chain. 2.5 is not the "boss standard" connector, 2.1 is. This mismatch could result in an intermittent failure, just as you have observed.
No it actually says on the EBS stuff 'does not work with daisy chains'
Where? What "stuff"?
Man, you'll do yourself, and us, a big favour if you can be more explicit and clear when you're describing what's going on. For instance, in the quote above it's not entirely clear whether you are talking about the jack on the daisy chain or the socket on the pedal.
Then this;
I checked both a 2.1 and a 2.5 work on both pedals..
"work"? What, as in they both plug in or they both succeed at powering up the pedal?
I reckon about 50% of the faults people post here are not actually faults at all: just inadequate explanations and a lack of methodical testing.
Anywho... if the plug on the power supply is indeed 2.5mm, then it's the wrong size for the socket of the daisy chain and will be causing intermittent connection. If you move the connection around a bit you'll probably find it comes and goes as connection is made and lost.
If the power supply works with the individual pedals, then there's nothing wrong with the power supply - don't waste your money replacing something that is in good working order.
If it worked once, then unless something has changed, it should work again. This leads me to believe the polarity of the connector is probably correct.
and finally, is the pedal black or grey? If it's black, it's less than about 10 years old and it should have a "boss standard" power connector, which is centre negative, NOT centre positive.
