Was browsing around several online sites today and noticed that the EBS ValveDrive has disappeared from many of the 'big ones' (Musicians Friend, etc.). Is this pedal history?

I've been staring very intently at this page the past couple weeks, but haven't been able to dig much up review-wise. Have you played through one before? Your thoughts?

I already own a ValveDrive and absolutely love it... it is an always-on preamp/pedal for me. I just set it on top of my amp head and hit it before I go into the head. I rarely use it for outright distortion - just tube warmth and gain, and man does it do the trick. I love using the 'vintage' mode as well. It dirties things up and adds some extra cushion on the bottom without any major EQ changes.
I did swap out the stock tube for a long-plate Mullard reissue and it really allows a mellow warmth and grit to come through at low gain, moreso than the original Svetlana tube. I was digging around to perhaps purchase another one as a backup when I discovered that they are not really available anymore at a lot of sites... which prompted the question.

Note the Valve-drive is NOT quite being discontinued. Sounds to me they might be improving it.
I asked EBS tech support and here is their answer:
"The ValveDrive is under process of being modified, so the current version will be discontinued."
Their tech support is great. They answer questions within 24 hours.
It's not always the case with instrument companies. Some never answer...

Amazon is pricing these quite high don't you think? I bought mine from Amazon not so long ago for $300. Now it's $534?? Seems like I need to sell mine on Amazon..

Its my always on pedal as well. Great sound and like others said, does a grait job of warming up your signal. I've used it for fuzz and distortion on some recordings too with good results.
Bumping this to see if anyone going to NAAM would stop by EBS and see if there's a new version in the works or if it's gone for now?

Why does everyone seem to think we all need a DI in every preamp pedal especially one a lot of people will want as a distortion box? Using the DI totally hamstrings you as to where you can effectively run it in your chain. I'll be keeping my eye open for an old non-DI ValveDrive but in the meantime I've just now ordered a DHA VT1-Std-Bass.

Illogical. You don't have to use a feature just because it's there. My amp has a Deep switch, but that doesn't mean I can only play dub and reggae. Though on a side note, I wish flipping the Deep switch meant I could play dub and reggae.
It's very logical. You think they aren't charging me more for a feature I don't want? If they aren't then they've likely cut corners somewhere to maintain the price.
I'm a proponent of using high quality "one trick ponies" to do very specific things over the swiss army knife approach. In my experience this whole "versatility" thing we've been sold in recent years is in many cases of a lot less real world value than than it would seem at first glance.

That much amperage is not power supply friendly 
Voodoo labs, Cioks, & Trex top off at 400mA, even a current doubler cable would still fall short of 1000mA.
Dont like that they kept the vertical tube orientation. Would like to have seen it layed down horizontal so the pedal wouldn't be so tall and awkwardly shaped.
