He sort of changed my life without knowing it.
I had played in a garage band playing metal for a very short time as a kid. My older brother snuck me out to a show on the lake near where we grew up. It was an outdoor venue. When we got out of the car, I was disappointed because the band was on break. I heard "Two Tickets to Paradise" playing over the PA.
When we rounded the corner, it turned out it was a cover band playing the song and NAILING it just like the radio. My jaw dropped because they did every nuance perfectly.
It was a few days later that I got a visit from that band's drummer. Their bass player had quit on a Tuesday or Wednesday and they had gigs that weekend. I had been playing a very short time. And the fact that THAT band wanted me to fill in shocked me. I ended up getting through that weekend, and then the next weekend, and then the next year and a half. (Mind you, I was in high school and they were all in their 30s.)
Had I not gotten that first impression of that band nailing Two Tickets so well I thought it was the recording, I likely would have passed on the gig. But I wanted to learn from those guys. And learn I did!
Thanks for the great catchy songs, Eddie.
