Eden 2-12 XLT bottoming out

Newsflash!! Eden products are known (by me) for not handling low Bs well. Personally, I think Dave and company are a great company and nice folks, but I fear they're just a flavor of the month bass equipment maker. I heard so much good about their stuff, only to be totally disappointed when I actually gigged with it.

There's a reason Ampeg's been around so long.....

(and my 4x8" cab handles the low B better than anything I've ever played thru; yes, 8" drivers!!).

C'mon, stop being a 100% bigot about drivers larger than 10".

:D

Not every 15" or larger is flabby and tubby. And not every 10" is wonderful for the lows. I had the Eden D410XLT you favor so much, on my test bench and it has crap for lows. Low B on this box is as loose and sloppy as an old prostitute.

Well, in Munji's defense he did say 410XST. You said you had the XLT. The XST improved on the low end voicing and ability to handle the low B.

I still say go 210XST!

Yup that's why they've been around since the 70's and build/built/design cabs for other well known and respected manufacturer's.

Well the power isnt really an issue. I have plans on getting a seperate pre amp/power amp setup in the future. The hartke is just for the time being. I was talking to a guy at work and He said about building a cab. What do you think Of this solution. his recomendation would be to use car speakers saying that they will go penty low enough but wouldnt be as efficient so i would need more power. not an issue since I am planning on a seperate power amp down the road anyhow. Also saying how they are designed for a smaller box so I can put like 4-10 or 4-12 in abox and still be able to fit it in my car.My concern is about not knowing how they will sound before hand. What do you think. This guy is a wiz at building boxes. but He hasnt ever done anything for bass guitar. In his car now his box for his stereo is tuned to 31.6 hertz. Or would I be better off getting a comercial cab such as a bagend or something else tuned to 31 hertz or lower? .. I am desperate i thought I had a firm grasp on this to have a rude awakening with this 2-12.

actually with the genz and an acme b4 it would be louder than you guys give credit for... i had the b2 which sucked power on its own but added my friend's goliath 3 jr. and it was plenty loud and deep with the same amp he's using. it was enough to cut through a 100 watt marshall half stack and a VERY loud drummer.

I wonder how much of the volume was the GB and how much was the Acme?

I tried running an Acme in parallel with a Tech 2x12 and it was a hardly noticeable difference from just the 2x12 itself! Too bad though, I love the sound of the Acme.

Are you referring to Ampeg, in agreement, or to Eden, in disagreement?!

Ampeg's been around long before the 70's. All I know about Eden is what I've experience first-hand, and I wasn't impressed. Different strokes, I guess, but I'll take my speakers with the non-flubbing option, please.

Certainly mirrors my experience with the D410XLT. I owned one (and gigged with one) for almost a year and ultimately decided it was the most over-rated cab on the market. Mine always sounded nasally in the mid and not worth a poot in the low register. I ran it most of the time with a WT800 mono-bridged. Mine was the 8 ohm version. I sold both pieces and was very happy to be rid of them.

Well, I've had just about as much or more experiance with the Eden D212XLT than anybody on this forum having played through two of them for quite the while. Under most conditions they performed pretty well. With my Mesa M2000 I was never happy however...I found the sound to be a tad "slushy" for me. With my SS GK they did sound very solid. (I play dub-reggae with a couple of 5 string Warwicks.) 44Hz was not nearly as deep as I wanted but the two together did just fine. After I sold them I started playing through my new EB-MM HD212's and it was then I realized how much I had been missing. Each time I compare Eden cabs with any of the others I have owned I am reminded of how cheap they really are. My EV loaded RR Mesa 15" had far more "prescent" and punchier mids than the 2x12 Edens did; this was in a side by side comparison. Some people love that Eden sound I know....but each Mesa, SWR and EB cab I have owned has out performed all my Eden gear by a long shot (2x10XLT,4x10XLT, 2x12XLT.)

it was pretty equal... the acme took more but the 7000 a balance knob between high and low and high/low pass filters to further equalization of the cabs. you could really hear how less hi-fi the gol. jr. was. it was a cool experience and sounded great but i like to use overdrive quite a bit and the acme won't tolerate that AT ALL.

I guess I'd add that if you WERE a fan of that "Eden-sound" (I'm not) you may have luck trying different amps with your cab. I did notice a change in performance whether using my Mesa or my GK. Maybe an amp with a better dampening ratio or slew rate or something...I'm not that versed in the what sort of specs you'd be looking for. Some manufacturers rigs don't always perform at their best in "mix+match" situations..
I am a big fan of 12's, have been for years. At their best, my D212XLT's added a lovely wide bottom with good punch. At their worst, they were blurry and indistinct.

I have a Hartke 7000 and a couple Acme lowB's... the 300 hundred watts just don't make the Acmes sing the way ther should.........they are fine at lower volumes, but once cranked you get the famous underpowerd Acme farts:D YMMV

By the way the Mesa 15s I looked at looked realy small cab wise. and they have a Black metal grill on them they are used. Will these handle my Low B. I was on Peaveys website and it says thee that peaveys 4-10 TVX and 1-15 black widow are tuned to 30 hertz each. These should then be able to handle the low B with no problem right?

I don't know anything about old prosties (or young ones, for that matter), but my particular 410XLT rules on the bottom end. Maybe try something besides an Ibanez through it, eh?

I don't have an Ibanez but I used my two Modulus Quantum 6's, my three Roscoe's and my Ken Smith BSR6 GN through that D410XLT powered by a WT800 for over a year. It not only didn't "rule," it more or less sucked.

Well there ya go Boogie...you need to try something besides one of those crappy handmade US models through it. ;)
