Eden E300T

As a fellow E300T owner I believe that my happiness with the amp is enough to deflect all of the negative feelings regarding it. My impression is that most of the negativity come from its source of manufacture, Eden's waning popularity, and the impression that Eden was trying to "pull a fast one." Yes, some buyers had less than stellar experiences with mechanical issues but most brands seem to have these issues at some point (according to the myriad of threads that appear on TB about "my ____ has this problem"). I got a good one. I am pleased with the tone. I am pleased with the relative value. When it breaks or I can't get it serviced efficiently, I may change my mind. For now I see no issues. Enjoy it!

ya, that's a good answer. and yes, you are right that issues with eden stem mostly from their duplicity.

Wow, Deja Vu ! Didn't we have this conversation already, Mark ! I'm with you. So far I would say that I love this amp. It does what I want it to do. If it proves to be trouble, I reserve the right to change my mind. For now, I am happy with it. I was just playing devil's advocate, and honestly, I was falling into the negative trap there for a minute. I can't wait to play this amp out at a show !

So - Back to my original question then. Do I play the amp in the "correct" orientation as they produced it, or do I turn it upside down ?

In my "version", Fame BVH300, the tubes are upright so the heat won't affect the components inside the chassis. That orientation also makes the bear claw retainers acceptable. Unless Yours is equipped with the top hat retainers, I'd use Eden upside down, ie. the tubes upright, not upside down. Not as much for the heat buildup, but for the security that the tubes are always well seated and securely in the sockets.

Also, all lying apart and politics aside, is this a good amp ? I'm starting to feel bummed out about all of the negative talk about it. Bottom line for me is
a.) is it objectively a good/reliable tube bass amp, and
b.) I like the way it sounds. For the money I think it's a fair deal. It has an SVT/SWR hybrid sound. As long as I don't need to invest any money into it, I'm ok with the politics. When I play it, I don't think about the politics of it. I think about chicks diggin' it !

IMHO/IME (slightly less than 2 years), it's a good amp.

Sure, it has it's problems but most, if not all, of problems I have had with it has been because of modern mfg tubes. The beauty of our family of amps is that if You monitor the bias test point voltages closely, you'll find the possible bad tube in time and if squeezing the last drop of performance out of the head is not your primary concern, you can replace only that one bad tube. I have had 4 EH's and 2 Sovteks on mine for about 1.5 years now with no ill effects.

Other aspect that can produce problems in the future is RoHS, but again, that's something we have to deal with every manufacturer and every product.

When I get back to my feet financial-wise once again, I will buy another one for PA use.

Amps work upside-down? Does this affect the phase of the output?

It won't as long as you play upside down. Or you could get a lefty bass and play it righty.. then you would be right side up.

Now if you lay down while you play, then youd only be 90deg out of phase, and you probably wouldn't hear that much.

On the other hand. if you flipped the cab as well......

In another thread, the one that shows the insides of different amps, there's an eden that looks like a sadowsky, and it has a chassis on the bottom.

What's the story with that one. Any relationship to the one in this thread, other than both are from eden?

USe it the right way up!! If heat IS a prob. grab an old computer fan & rig it up to suck or blow hot air away.

just came across this thread so please excuse the fact that it's a couple years old... just have to comment on how my E300T has been working out. there have been no heat problems whatsoever and it's been killing the loud factor for some time now. why someone would turn it upside down makes me go ... hmmm... anyway, i absolutely love this thing. my GB900 hasn't seen any action at all since i got the E300T. super loud, super tubey, and the footswitch distortion and mute have been working well. anyway, i really don't have any gas for any other tube heads since the Eden E300T has been working so well. definitely worth a try/listen if you get the opportunity only 40 lbs, so lighter than most cabs...
