Tried a search and got nuttin' Has anyone tried out any of Eden's EC combos? The EC10 or even EC8 are good looking but price makes me wonder if there is much to differentiate them the every other inexpensive 1x8 and 1x10 combo already available from Fender, Ampeg, Peavey, Orange, etc, etc, etc...
Yeah, I was curious about these and also found no info here or on Youtube about them. I guess they're too new still.
I tried them at te Musikmesse. Great little combos, especially at this price. And they do sound like Eden.
I'm also considering purchasing an EC8. Have any other TB users had a chance to try them out? No stores over here stock Eden at the moment so I can't try them out for myself!
I saw today an EC10, couldn't test it, but will return Saturday to the store. I was looking for an Orange CR25BX or Ampeg BA110, this maybe a game changer...
This is an old discussion thread, but I thought I would add my 2 cents worth anyway. I recently picked up a Eden EC10, and love it. I had been looking for a small bass amp that I could use when jamming with friends (mostly acoustic). As with everyone, I was looking for the magical combination for a practice amp of great bass, decent volume, light weight, and low price. You know, the impossible dream. I did not need lots of volume, but so many of the small practice amps I tried (both new and used) lacked the rich bass I was looking for, or were too heavy for my needs. A friend in town showed me his Markbass MicroMark. It had exactly the sound I was after, but was WAY beyond my price range. I then stumbled on the EC10 on sale over the internet. I normally would not buy something like an amp without getting a chance to play it first. But I was not finding anything comparable at all in local shops, and found it on sale for $150. So I figured I would order it, then send it back if I did not like it. I did not need to worry at all. This thing is a keeper! For the size and price, the EC10 had a much deeper sound than anything else I had tried, even in the used market. It appears to be extremely well built, and has some nice extras like the effects loop and separate output for a tuner. I have played my mp3 player through the aux input for practicing, and am very pleased with the sound. I would have been nice to have a separate volume knob for the aux input, but that is a very minor nit-pick. The amp puts out great volume for such a small size. At 50w, the amp puts out much more power than I will usually need. But I have turned it up, just to see what it could do, and was pleased at both the volume it pumped out, and lack of any breakup or distortion. Overall, I am thrilled with the EC10. I jammed with friends over the weekend, and they were also very pleased with the sound. I'm sure for much more money (like the above mentioned Micromark), or more weight, you could find amps with even better bass, or could pump out more volume. However, given my budget, and portability requirements, the EC10 totally rocks. I considered the Fender Bronco 40. But I could not find it locally, and it's 8lbs heavier, and $100 more than the Eden. From what i have read here, it's also a great amp though. However, for my needs, the Eden is perfect.
I'm considering buying a EC10 combo and have a question. The 10" speaker has a dual cone design, right? Is it a tweeter or high frequency horn? Is it the same system as the "Whizzer" cone Eden has on their EX112 cabinets? Thank you.
I recently purchased the ec 2x8 combo and love it!! 99% of gigs I do I'm di'd (I do a lot of pit work for shows) so I don't need a huge amp rig, I was looking for something more along the lines of a good bass monitor and Eden wasn't even on my radar till I happened to try one of the combos and was really impressed..I went for the 2x8 over the 2x10 or 1x15 because it's so portable and it's small size is great for pit gigs where space is quite limited, also for such a small amp it is LOUD!! And has a surprisingly huge low enend...these amps are marketed as "practice" amps but they work very well as damn good bass monitors (if your di'd to foh)..for pit gigs I use one as is, for other gigs I stick it on an amp stand..works and sounds great!! I tend to keep the "enhance" feature off as it's basically a mid scooper..and I like my mids
I ended up emailing Eden customer support and they did confirm that the dual cone design of the EC10 is indeed the same as the Whizzer found on the EX112 cabinets. I bought the combo and was amazed by the tone quality and very natural highs it provides. I absolutely love it. I don't think it's loud enough to play with drums, but for practice and bass test drive at the workshop, they're perfect.
Just an update after using the eden ec 2x8 combo for a while, sad to report its not all good I absolutely love this combo, its a perfect compact size for me and I love the tone BUT!!! I had to get rid of it after going through two different (brand new) ones, the first one just died on me just before a gig!! (thank god for di boxes), I switched it on and absolutely nothing coming out of it but a very indistinct overdriven sound, nearly inaudible, it was working perfectly on a gig the night before and hadn't been moved from that location, I brought it back to the shop and they promptly exchanged it for a brand new one, I was hoping I was just unlucky enough to get a "bad" one. So, with brand new combo to hand I started on a run of theatre shows, at first it was perfect but as the shows went on I started to notice the volume/output dropping considerably till it got to the point where it was being drowned out by a 15w ancient ashdown combo that one of the subs was using in the pit!! things came to a head when I had to use it on a video shoot/live recording, the output volume was so low it was practically unuseable, so I had to return it...I was gutted to say the least. (NOTE: none of the combos were overdriven or abused in any way, I was using them as a monitor in a show/pit setting where I was sitting down and with the amp facing me, my typical settings were gain-9/10 0' clock, enhance-off, comp-off, bass, mid, treble- 12 0 clock and master - 7/8 0 clock) I've come to the conclusion that while great sounding and compact combo's they really are little more than occasional practice amps, they just dont seem to be up to constant usage night after night in a "real world" gigging situation, (also I have a funny feeling active basses are a bit too"hot" for them) such a shame, they were absolutely perfect for my needs... when they worked ... It might have been a case where I was just plain unlucky to get a bad batch but that's of no use to me, the experience has soured me a bit on similar products..I really really loved the Eden tone and was even considering upgrading to one of the head/cab models but the experience has made me a bit leery to be honest
Hi Murf, I haven't seen any reports of faulty units on the Eden forum. So I guess you were just very unlucky. Those combos are selling very good and Eden and the customers are very happy with them. I asked the brand manager and he was not aware of someone with two faulty units in a row.
I loved my EC-1x15 but it died after a month of gigs now it just sits until I can see if its even worth it to get it fixed
I don't know it worked fine the night before, I turned it on at the gig and it was dead, its past warranty so its my loss, I think it would cost more to fix than to replace it....
Bassyboy g, Bit more fault finding and report back please. is the speaker open circuit? (Battery test) has the amp popped a fuse?. Any lights showing?, Do you get a signal plugging your bass strait into the FX return?. And Murf you will find that backing the volume control on your hot active bass slightly, will improve your headroom if you feel you are running out of it in the amp input.X It's very, very rare for an amplifier or cabinet to slowly reduce its output, usually stuff works but suddenly starts making a horrible noise or it suddenly don't work at all. In the repair trade you won't make much money specialising in Eden EC's. There are loads of them about now and nobody has ever asked me to fix one yet.:-(
yes it suddenly stopped working it just makes a static sound when you turn it on and no signal plugging into the FX return and a big pop when you turn it off, it needs pro help one of these days.....until then I got a old Eden 2x10T 8ohm with a new Eden EX 112 8ohm with a Markbass II head 500 watts @4ohms.....
it stopped working how does that sound different one day it worked the next it did not I'll get it fixed but it will probobly cost as much as the amp to do it, repair guys charge about 90 bucks a hour
Sorry, my Bad English I guess. For me stopped working is more like no lights, no sound, nothing. Make sure you give it to Eden for repair.
