Eden Navigator QUIET

So I just received an Eden Navigator in a trade. I've had on ebefore so I thought I knew what I was getting myself into. Anyway, I crack the box open, hook it up to the 1802 and it is barely audible. My walkabout is kicking the Nav + 1802s collective ass in volume. This is insane. Anyone know what could be wrong? :crying:

The 1802 is his poweramp. As in QSC PLX 1802.
I really couldn't say what the problem may be. I've never used a Navigator, but it's pretty high on the GAS list. They seem to be pretty amazing preamps. Best of luck in getting this resolved.

Sorry, SoComSurfing has it right, should have clarified...

My chain:

Fender MM > Navigator > QSC PLX 2 1802 > Omni 15 tops(2)

It is audible but I pretty much have to have everything dimed to get decent volume. Even then, my old Navigator would have been louder with the gain @ 9 o'clock and master @ noon, MUCH louder

:( I shouldn't have to run the Turbo boost to get a signal that is almost usable. With the old Navigator I was able to run everything flat with none of the buttons on the front depressed - it would be loud as all getout through the same amp.

I appreciate all of the help and ideas you guys are tossing my way.

The navigator has an internal switch that can be set to work with different power amps. Yours is probably in the wrong position for the power amp you have. There is lots of info on TB regarding this switch.

What kind of shape was the shipping box in when you received it?

perfect

Tried it. It became more quiet. Eden sends them from the factory in the 2.8v position and they can be switched into the 1.4. Tried that, just made it more quiet than it already was.

That would make a lot of sense. The QSC amps are not very "sensitive", they need a relatively hot signal to drive them properly.

It would make a lot of sense but I've had the same combo before, the Navigator and actually the exact same power amp... not just the same model but the same unit(traded back and forth with a TBer). It worked just fine when I had my old Navigator.

When I first started this thread I was thinking that I might have missed something. I tinkered with it for a while, read the manual about 10 times just to be safe, and searched TB and the Eden forums as well for an answer. Now I'm really starting to think that this unit is all jazzed up. :help:

seaKamp,

Perhaps you should talk to the person you traded with. Or if that's not a good course, contact an Eden repair shop and have it tested if playing with controls doesn't reveal the problem. I've owned a Navigator for over 3 years and what you describe doesn't sound like its a setting/switch problem; it may be more involved. Just my 2 cents.

i know you said you had one before, but how are the settings for biamp, full range and stereo...you have to pan the preamp all the way to one side or the other...also, if you're bridging your poweramp, you only need to use one volume control on the panel...if you use both knobs, one volume knob will counteract the effect of the other...that's how it worked on my crown, anyway...also, the left and right DI's (XLR's) are a little hotter on the preamp than the 1/4 main outs...man, up until a couple weeks ago, i had pictures of the back of my navigator using the effect loop and tuner out with all of the different combos of how you can set it up with the poweramp...unfortuantely, i got rid of the navigator and picked up a mesa 400+ a few weeks ago

I don't have a tube to swap. I reseated the tube and same problem. Good idea and thanks for the suggestion.

It is now boxed up because I don't think there is anything else that I can do to fix the problem. :(

Oh and Son of Bovril... I am not great at describing bass tones here. But I will do my best - there are many more articulate posters on the boards and I'd suggest hearing it from someone else.

The Navigator is relatively clean(glockenklang being more clean and articulate), warm, round, thick... It isn't exactly airy and with a flat EQ doesn't really sparkle. It is a good middle ground between overly tubey and overly sterile. IMO they hit the nail on the head with the tone. I love it, I just want to be able to use it!!!

I have tried everything. I spent hours with it last night and when I woke up this morning I spent time with it as well. It is killing me because I love the Eden tone :) According to the manual the DI outs are a little bit more quiet than the main outs are. I don't want to and shouldn't have to work around problems with a preamp.. I just want a preamp that does its job the way that it is supposed to. :o

That is really odd. My Nav ==> 2402 rig is way too darned loud with the attenutaor down on the QSC and not all the way up on the Nav... you ought to be knocking the walls down with that.

Two thing I can think of - swap out the jumper cable - weak chance at best but ... and then call Eden. maybe they'll have an idea for you or some other test you can try.

To add to your tone description. I would use the word focused. Maybe it isn't as airy as say a Demeter 201 but there is a certain focus about the Nav that translates to punch. I got it pretty close to a studio's Great River pre while recording a few weeks ago so it's not like it can't get good and clean and sparkly...

How would you compare the Mesa 400+ to the Navigator tone wise??

I love my Navegator paired with my 1400 watt power amp but have always been interested in the Mesa 400+
