So I wanted to feel this out a bit to see the direction I want to take on my recent ebay purchase. I had been looking for an Eden WT800 for a while. I found a U.S. made 2007 WT800c that I just picked up today from the UPS facility. Upon pickup, the UPS employee noticed about a four inch by four inch gash into the top of the cardboard that he described as a “crush”. He had me open the package to see if we could see any damage. It was well packaged with thick two in Styrofoam on all sides, top and bottom. I did not see any visual damage to the amp and took it home. I opened it up to notice a dent in the bottom right corner of the face plate, where it meets the body. The screw closest to that corner felt loose. It looks as though it had been dropped or something at some point. This was not made clear in the seller’s description.
So before giving it a function test, I read the manual and made sure everything was hooked up correctly. When I hooked it up to my cab and turned it on, it made a fair amount of buzzing. I sighed a little and set to checking out other functionality of the amp. I was surprised how HOT the amp got so quickly. I was also surprised that the fan did not kick on. After I noticed this, I quickly turned the amp off. If it is damaged, I don’t want to do further damage. So now the questions…
Should there be much in the way of buzzing going on with this amp? I got a Genz Benz 9.2 while I was waiting to find my Eden, and the GB is super quiet and runs cool as well. I am not trying to slam Eden by any means. I love their sound. I have just never had one of my own until now. I also understand that they are different types of power amplifiers. And to be fair, this is a USED item.
Should the fan be turning on? It seems that it is getting pretty hot for it not to be running.
If you got this from someone on ebay, and they didn’t mention the damage to the face plate corner, what would you do? Granted there was damage to the top of the package, however the amp itself was fully encapsulated in Styrofoam . I just sent a few questions to the seller and I will wait to hear back to back from them to see the direction I want to take this. It might just be a simple insurance issue when the dust settles.
For now, I will try to give Eden CS a call tomorrow to discuss normal function for their amp and do a bit of trouble shooting.
