Eden WT800C amp woes!! Anyone else having Problems?

man.. i love that bass so much... it plays itself.. i paid for mine so i dont get anything for free.... he helped me out some though..
but it is so vintagy and its only 3 years old, its nuts.... i say it alot but it plays like buttah...
he is a very talented builder that makes them the way Leo did 40 years ago.. its his own little niche that he nailed.....
an AC jazz is next on my list
Oh, and just because there's an Alleva Coppolo with your initials in the title..........I've gotta get my hands on one of Jimmy's basses!!!!!

that is all......:D

When I have the money I'll be getting all of my P's and J's from Jimmy. I've heard about him for a while now. He's friend's with some friend's of mine up here (Boston) who own a music shop. They've been singing his praises for years.

I haven't tried a TF, but I did use a GBE600 while my Eden was gone and I thought it was great. Yeah, a little heavier, but the features and sound were really nice. It's 25 pounds, 2 spaces, not THAT big.

Kirk - Yep. I loved the Eden tone. But I have to be totally honest, the GBE1200 really does slay it. It has the same tube quality and warmth but is cleaner fast and looks to be built a lot better.

I told Kirk this on the phone but will say it again here. If 4+ years ago, when I signed on with Eden, I had heard this head I would have gone with Genz Benz instead and saved myself a ton of headaches.

I feel bad because though I had never played GB stuff, I just assumed that they were second tier stuff like Carvin (Carvin is much better these days). So I never gave them a chance. Man was I wrong.

I think their stuff is undervalued. Not saying they should bump their prices :scowl: but the GBE1200 Lists at $1,729.00 and should be more around the price of an Eden WT800 ($2,100 IIRC) or the WT-1205 ($2,400 IIRC).

Straight up? If someone asks me about a DB750 compared to this I would honestly say to RUN, NOT WALK and get the GBE1200. Not only is it better IMO BUT, it is just a hair over half the price of the DB750 (street price).

Kirk, it sounds like a TFunk might not give you the output you want. If you really want light and power, Epifani might be your best bet, that is if you like the tone. But the GBE heads, with their dual channel approach is going to be hard to beat in terms of features and versatility. And as Mike has pointed out, the price on these heads just can't be beat right now.

Try the T-Funk before you write it off based on its wattage rating. My T-Funk could bury my old (now sold off) Iamp 800. Despite its lowish wattage rating, it is surprisingly beefy. Impressive, especially considering its light weight.

The Thunderfunk is popping up constanly. My friend in NY just got one and loves it as well as a few folks on TB swear by theirs.. All of my fly dates are good PA support so volume is not a terrible issue...
The TF is under 20 pounds and my bud says it sounds very tube like for a SS amp...
So the TF is on the short list too.. keeping it open for a few days... i will report.. thank you
IMHO, you need the Thunderfunk. It's absolutely my go-to head. Thing is, if you needed the power of the GBE1200, the TFB can't compete with that, but if you don't, and if you want something that won't break your back, it's all about the TFB, and you won't get better service from anyone than Dave Funk.

+1

I think Dave rates his amps conservatively. Again, I don't think it'd compete with a 1200W head, but if you don't really need that much power, the TFB should be on your VERY VERY short list. It is absolutely built with the gigging player in mind. Great tone, powerful - yet easy to use EQ, great output, EASY to eq for a room, and easy to carry. Dave offers an eval period. Try one.

I just lost my 2 page rant.. $%^& win XP.
I here ya mikeW. I have to say that the GB is one heck of a good sounding , built like a tank amps.. way faster than an eden i think... pretty nice goooy tube pre too...
I still have a loud rig if i want with my Crown Power/preamp, SVTs and the carvin B1500.. the Crown MA is a monster with the pre.. but light is what i want without going to any ClassD amps or switching power amps... just not for me at this time... :hiding: :hiding: maybe when im 70 :hiding: :hiding: :hiding:
Only kidding... ;)
The Genz Benz stuff is very articulate.. and precise from what i heard at the store...

geez do you think lane is keeping up with the thread? i better check my brakes before i goto my next gig.

Again im just rambling on and making no sense.. im just giddy that this is all over now.... one happy camper for sure..... thanks yall..

I did it today.. I went to my dealer.. And got my money back for the "out on perpetual repair wt800c". Finally after 3 months of repairs and two RAs.
The funny thing is after the "2 weeks" thing that i kept getting told month after month by eden, when i got to the dealer they said a new wt800C was just overnighted to them...

Even funnier is that the same problem that i had with mine that went out on repair time after time is happening on this brand new unit that they just recieved..and that is when you pull the MUTE , it goes into occilation and static noise when the gain input is over 3 o'clock..
The bass guy just rolled his eyes... It is really sad.. My Credit card is not yet showing the credit posting to it when i just checked, so i will keep my eye on it.. but as of today I was refunded...this should be the end of my eden dilema.

Man, Eden is really taking a punch in this thread. You'd think David would get on the management to handle these. It's unfortunate when this kind of thing happens after an acquisition.

I get one or two solicitations or letters of interest a week from people who say they want to acquire one of our operating companies. It'll never happen, even though my personal fortune would grow substantially if we sold it. I have a commitment to our employees to continue to maintain an excellent place for them to grow their careers. When I tell that to the potential buyers, it's always, "Oh, no, we will leave all the executives in place to keep it going!" Riiiiiight. That's all I need is outside investors trying to squeeze the most nickels onto the bottom line. No sir, I don't like it.

BTW, I have ever played a TFunk but Mark Wright say the FET channel on the GBE1200 is so damn close to a TFunk. Just a lot heavier. But then again, it is also a lot louder.

Unless they totally revoiced the amp, my ears put the SS channel of the GBE stuff (at least the 600 and400) quite a distance away from the Thunderfunk... much more 'SS' clinical than the TF.

That's what makes the TF so great.... it has a tight but warm tone that is 'simple'... not 'blending different preamps', etc.

Per Vic's comment... if you need massive power, then you need the big lead sleds like the DB750, Glock HR, GBE1200, etc. That's a very rare situation for me (and most). For anything but the loudest gigs (I'm talking outside with no PA support), the TF is plenty with a large, 4ohm, relatively high SPL cab.

Even the GBE 750 is a horse.... 15" deep  and I believe almost 35 pounds!

Anyway... be careful of another manufacturer saying 'their head can sound just like another head':p

The other thing I'd be careful about with these comparisons and reviews is to make sure you get the stuff on a few gigs. I don't think you play out (and if I remember correctly, you haven't done a gig in a long time), but things can sound very different in a live mix in a real gigging situation. I understand the exhuberance of getting a new piece of gear, and the GB stuff is quite nice, but until you've had it in a real mix (not playing it with tracks, etc. at home) it's very difficult to determine what other amps it 'kills' or not.

While Eden seems to be having some quality and design issues, the WT800 is still one of the best sounding 'gigging' heads I've heard. That amp (usually with a 410XLT) is still the workhorse of backline out in the industry for those of us that use 'supplied backline' on occasion, and while it's not my tone of preference at this point, I've never had a 'bad night' with this industry standard rig.

+1 KJung on Eden, and it's a big reason why I'm going to ride this stormy weather out. I've never had a bad gig with any of my Eden gear, although I've had plenty of uncomfortable outings trying out other things that sounded just great in the store or at home. That's what makes Eden's tone so special.

Having said that, I really like the GBE stuff, and I don't think I could ever go with Thunderfunk. I think the Tfunk is too limiting. At least with the GBE, you have plenty of options to sculpt the tone. Blending the SS and tube channels to get your sound is VERY easy, so you aren't stuck with a SS tone or a tube tone, and to me the Thunderfunk simulated warm tone leaves a lot to be desired in many situations.

Just my two cents.

+1... if your tone preference leans toward a true tube tone, the TF is not for you. I don't really view the TF as doing a 'simulated' tube thing... more the best SS tone I've heard. Since I prefer as tight and quick and clean as I can get... but yet don't like the 'clinical transparant' type tone of many SS heads, the TF works perfectly for me. However, to me, the WT550 is the perfect 'ying' to the TF's 'yang'... similar expansive EQ options, simlar wattage (although the TF seems not to strain as much at very high volumes), but an inherent voicing more toward 'tube warm and fat' versus 'clean, tight SS tone'.

Just depends what gets you to your tone in the most simple, linear way to me!

Genz didn't say their head sounded like the TFunk. Mark Wright said the FET Channel sounded similar. Up until last year Ken I was doing an average of 145 dates a year for the last 5+ years between the various projects and bands I was in. Before that I played at least 90+ shows consistantly. This last year has been spent producing. That should change this summer.

You do a good number of gigs Ken, and yes, getting a amp on a gig is important BUT you should also know by now what can work just based on experience. That Carvin head you tried out is a good example. I don't think you gigged it but you have a good idea if it will work on the job or not.

I have done spots gigs over the past year with just about everything I have now expcept the GBE1200. It is similar is a lot of ways to the WT800 but IMO better. So I have a very good idea what it will sound like live.

Edit: Also, lots of rehearsals for the material I am producing using that gear.

+1...
I know of more than one head that can do another head's sound pretty well. Especially live.
