Eden WT800C amp woes!! Anyone else having Problems?

whats going on with Ken Bebensee ???.. i need to go see that thread... I like to rave good about gear.. but man its good to hear the other side too... its like a car wreck and rubber necking to see the gore.. ughhhhhhh.. weird humans:eek:

Nothing new lately...I was just thinking out loud of the few times on TB that I've seen customer service issues going bad without being handled. Your case and tribal3140 bass came to mind.

I don't like when people come on TB and ask or mention a problem without having at least contacted the company to ask for help. If the company didn'd answered your question or handled your problem, THEN we want to know about it.

I think you've done more than your share of contacting Eden on this!

What I don't get in all this is the inconsistency. I've picked up 4 new Eden products in the last 10 months, 3 cabinets and one head. All have been without any issues. And for what it's worth, having been an active Eden forum member for some time, there haven't been many cases reported there about customer issues. Even if you include the 1205 and 800c problems, the cases are isolated. Yet here on TB, it seems everyone "knows" of someone that is having huge problems with Eden. I'm not calling anyone a liar; certainly not you, Kirk. I've seen you deal with your issue here and at the Eden forum.

I also can't deny that Eden has had issues, since Lane has spoken to this in public. Still, the feeling I get here at TB is totally different than the feeling I get from people posting on the Eden forum, and I don't just mean the faithful. We have new people sign up there all the time, raving about new gear that just purchased. Very seldom does someone pop up with an issue.

But you come here, and the Eden sky is falling, backline compaines are yanking Eden from their offerings, while people who have never even owned an Eden product have resolved to never give them a try.

This all makes me think that this is just another TB-bandwagon that many people are jumping on. Anyone who's been around TB for a while should know how easy it is to get one of those rolling, positive or negative. Again, I'm not trying to belittle anyone in this thread or others who have had issues. I believe those issues exist. But I think the scope of this thing isn't nearly as big as what the TB forum is making it. Just my opinion.

EDIT: I'm not trying to stir things up. I really want to understand this. I'm just finding conflicting evidence as to how big this thing is.

Never read an AccuGroove related thread have you... ;) :p
People who have never tried, much less owned are the "authority" on so much regarding Mark's cabs it boggles my mind. I think there should at least be a past or current ownership requirement in relation to the amount of "noise" (to put it in the absolutely nicest way possible...) people can bash a line or manufacturer.

I just think Eden's QS obviously sucks right now. For both units I've owned (WT550 and Nav pre), my QC w/ them has been 100% good.

Even if you include the 1205 and 800c problems, the cases are isolated.

Not really...I'm pretty sure that Eden admitted sending the 1205's out with low gain problems, not just a few of them, but batches and batches of them. Some people may not have reported problems because the amount of power was either good enough, or they didn't have both passive and active basses to actually see that there wasn't enough gain for the passive.

I haven't had an issue with Eden for 8 years untill recently with the 1205. I can't even get a response from anyone regarding how long it will take to fix or if there's even another patch being devloped that will superseed the other patches. I'm not sure how you can chalk that up to the TB Bandwagon.

Eublet. i understand what you are saying.. I still stand by what i said in saying that the Eden wt800 and 550 are fantastic sounding amps.. I cant deny that ..
but the customer service issues are the main reasons why i prefer to look elswhere.. I have been "2 weeked" to death for 12 weeks now... always giving excuses why product is not available or able to be repaired.. its always another two weeks... last week they said i would have an amp off the line by friday.. the rep called yesterday and said another 2 weeks.. Im done..
it has been gone over in detail on prior pages.. I know for a fact that on the Eden Forum many eden product issues from hardware to customer service problems are constantly deleted from the forum by the administrator of that forum. The admin told me he will do it because he does not want the powers to be to shut down the forum... and im cool with that.. but i dont think it is a good measuring tool for real world....
I was told by the admin to not post my CS issue on the forum and to not post anyting negative. and the eden admin suggested that i also stop posting my dilema here. I think people need to know... so im still telling the story until it is final...
So i suspect that the eden forum may not be a good barometer for "+" and "-" stories on their product.. And i have to say they have every right to do that.
I want them to get their act together because the amps do sound good..
if they had replaced my brand NEW out of box amp, way back in November when i bought it with a working one instead of 3 repair attempts and still nothing , this thread would be about how great their CS is and praise them.. but that has not happened yet.. and still only excuses come from eden.. that i a problem that needs to made public so others can decide how much they want to deal with.

Eublet,
I respect your opinion, but IMHO, there's no hidden (or obvious) agenda here. Yeah, Eden still produces great products based on great designs, but they've comitted MULTIPLE "cardinal sins" in the last (at least) 12 months. I've read through all the long threads, and when I filter out all the emotion (on both sides), the users are justified in being as upset as they are.

If anything, look to our own Mike Winnen with his thread on the Genz Benz stuff, whose title directly attacks Eden, and he was even an endorser until recently. I'd weigh this a lot heavier than others not able to claim "inside info" in their posts.

As I recall, most of the other posts that are negative regarding Eden are fairly specifically to the just horror stories, and the bitterness towards Eden with regard to those stories, which seems appropriate to me. I also think it's reasonable to predict misfortune for any company that allows this to happen even once... let alone multiple times... let alone to these extents.

Thing is, even ONE of these horror stories is pretty much intolerable by anyone's standards, and is completely inconsistent with the kind of company Eden once was, and should still be, and I can think of at least two (this one and phish-gate) right off the top of my head. Maybe this is a relatively small percentage of their overall sales, it's still unthinkable and indefensible, IMHO.

I can also think of multiple 1205 users not only complaining about the lack of gain, but also the massive delays in getting their amps returned. Not only that, but even with the current gain stage update, it's still too light. I didn't have a problem with it, as it was plenty for me at that point, but I knew they were gonna' do another one, because it was still too hard to set the gain stages to extract all the power (and in some cases make the compressors easier to use), and yep, they are.

FACT: Any time the product doesn't match the documentation, let alone well established good practice, it's flawed. The 1205 didn't get there.

FACT: The 1205 should never have been released when it was. It was (obviously) not properly tested, and it also later became obvious they weren't prepared to service the returns in a timely fashion.

FACT: Eden was WAY WAY WAY WAY too slow to respond to this, and (OMHO) when they did, I saw/read too much hostility or at least apathy towards the users, like it was their problem.

...and the 1205 gain issue isn't even the greatest of their current problems. The 800C was worse... not in design, but in production, QC, and also customer service.

I'm gonna' qualify all this, by saying, as much as it may surprise folks reading the above, while I'm not encouraged by svtb15's most recent results, I still hope Eden pulls out of this. I still own some of their products and have no plans to "dump" any of it or encourage others to do so. I still feel their designs are good and the tone is great. I don't want them to die, but I must say, they need to stop the bleeding NOW and work hard to rebuild thier reputation or it WILL get worse.

Halftooth,

Eden has stated they have another gain mod in the works for the 1205. They want to test it more and get this one right once and for all. Still, the 1205 is an isolated incident regarding one product. The 800c is another. And you have direct experience with the problem, so my comments don't apply to you.

But by the sounds of things here, everyone who has ordered an Eden cabinet has had blown drivers, disconnected horns, grills not properly aligned, whatever. And everyone is saying that Eden won't get any of their money, like those guys are up there in Mundelein trying to swindle us folks out of our cash. There are several individuals, one who has posted in this thread, that are selling their perfectly working Eden gear because they are scared they'll get screwed at some point. THAT's the TB-bandwagon at work.

I put in an order for a 212xlt in late December. The cabinet shipped to me in mid-January, and it is proving to be the greatest sounding cabinet I've ever owned. By the sounds of everything here, I must have been a complete idiot at the time for ordering it because everyone assumed it would arrive broken. I'm being a little sarcastic here, but the sentiment has merit. And judging by the amount of people that show up at the Eden forum every week posting the same thing I just posted, it seems that customer satisfaction is the norm, not the other way around. Of course, it only takes a few bad apples to ruin the bunch, but this is not the end of Eden, not by a long shot.

Vic,

You posted just before I did. I agree with you completely. I'm taking a cautious approach myself toward Eden now. I wouldn't order a 1205 or 800c, and I'd be skeptical for a quick turn around should my 550 need service.

I 100% agree with you about even 1 or 2 incidents like this being unacceptable. This is truly a shame. But I believe they will back up their claims. I'm really expecting Eden to step up to the plate and fix this.

My guess is, even if the fix all these issues over the next 6 months (which would be fast), the black eye over all this will still be healing several years from now. In the internet age, people don't forget problems like this.

Oh, and I've gased for Genz Benz equipment myself! There stuff looks really nice, and it sounds wonderful. If only I were rich!!!

I currently have my Eden 550 (only 3 weeks to repair so I was lucky) and 210XST in the closet at home. They are for sale. They work and sound great. I am not telling people to dump their Eden gear. I am not highly reccommending it anymore either. I wish Eden well. The thing is that while my 550 was in for service, I discovered that I don't really need it. A combo and good DI seem to be doing it for me these days. If I ever do need a "big rig' again, I'll probably go with another company.

These may be isolated incidents and only represent a small percentage of Eden gear, but if yours is the amp that craps out 2 hours before a gig, that doesn't matter much to you.

...while people who have never even owned an Eden product have resolved to never give them a try.

Eublet, the one constant that I've seen regarding Eden's problems is that the people that have complained about Eden's CS issues still LOVE the actual product when it works. The same goes for me as a non-owner, I love the sound that I've heard from their products.

However, for me, CS is a major factor when it comes to buying anything at a certain price point. It would take some serious convincing for me to buy their product knowing that they're having some major CS issues. This isn't like taking someone's opinion that Eden's CS sucks based on a reps tone of voice or general dissatisfaction. This are specific cases where there was gross neglegence on the part of Eden's CS, Eden officials acknowledging flaws with product lines that appear to have been rushed, etc. My amp shopping plans have been delayed, so I'll still keep an eye on Eden. I'll still try their products in store, but I'll also watch to see if their CS gets back on the right track. I want them to get back on the right track.

You may or may not see my hesistance to buy Eden as bandwagoning, but I see it as smart shopping.

FWIW, I currently use a WT550. It is for sale, not because of this, but because I wanted a quicker, SS head. That said, I will be a bit relieved when it goes, as I am REALLY frustrated by this mess. Actually, my head is called the "Traveller" and the travel bag was coming out "next month" for ages... I had told my dealer to call me when they got them in stock, they never did... I had called him once some time later, they were still expecting them and, judging by the things I read on the web, I guess they never arrived. I used a laptop bag my guitarist had around, but that shows that something is wrong and it affects more or less all customers, one way or another. I mean, it's a 1400 euro head here... this is NOT Behringer, where you can say "well, for 39€ what did you expect?". 95% of the companies at that price range do not have these kind of problems at all. It doesn't really matter if it has happened to 2 or 200 people - the fact is that it happens, and when I pay THAT kind of money I need to be sure that, whatever happens, I'll get TOP service. I mean, this is happening to guys in the USA - imagine if something broke and they had to ship a replacement part to Greece! Merry Christmas 2009! (yeah, I'm exaggerating, but as waiting for months and months is a REAL possibility - no thanks)
Eden can say bye-bye to my money, at least for the next few years.

No, that's not bandwagoning. I think those are legitimate concerns. What I'm talking about is the "Eden sucks" type comments that people seem to be interjecting. Besides, there is a fine-line between snowballing and bandwagoning. Both can be bad for a company. These problems have definitely snow-balled.

I'm an Eden dealer and have experienced many problems. I've had several cabs show up with speaker problems. I've had several customers with problems. We dealt them before the buy out and I can't remember one problem ever. I played them for 10 years or more and have owned almost everything they make and never had a problem. I wouldn't buy from them now and have considered giving up the line.

As for me, my Eden Nav preamp went on the fritz AGAIN. Happened twice before and was fixed. Its was out of warranty, so I took it to a trusted LOCAL tech. I love its sound, so I'm not dumping it. But no way would I ever send it to the US Music cave to be repaired.

I went down that road before with GK and my brand new 2000RB when they first came out, and its the HANDLING of the repair as to why I refuse to ever own another GK product. I had three GK amps for years before that, all great products with no problems. But it isn't until you NEED the manufacturer to step up to the plate that these issues come to light.

I sang GK's praises for years, and when my unit dumped on me and I needed them, I was lied to and stalled for about 6 months, and when I got my head back it crapped out during the first gig back. That was some time ago, but I refuse to do business with them because of the way "I" was treated, not because of stories of others.

There's a difference between repairs for low end products, and repairs for high end, high dollar professional gear. People need the pro gear fixed and returned so they can make a living, not just for a hobby. Months for a repair is unconscionable. Others can do it and PROVE they can do it. Look at Thunderfunk, Mike Tobias, Bergantino, and a host of others. Dave Nordschow from Eden USED to be a service hero several years ago, but now it is all left to LANE to explain, and he doesn't seem to be able to make things happen for the working pro's who need him.

BTW, my local guy got it back to me in TWO DAYS, in time for the next weekend's work. No way Eden could have gotten it back to me in two WEEKS even, and I also would have had the risk of it getting sucked in for months.

You have your experiences, you make your calls. But to insist personal experiences are blown out of proportion or not fair is just plain idiocy.
