Eden WT800C amp woes!! Anyone else having Problems?

I still use one. And actually, even though I hate the company, I still love that amp.

Ironically, I feel the same exact way.

I have a WT-550 that I've had for over 4 years. I love it, it's loud, small, and never given me one issue ever. I'll probably never get rid of it, but I'm pretty sure that I'll never buy another Eden unless of course a WT-800B comes up used for an insane price.

But first: I have a 2005 wt550 and I've used backline wt800s--never had a problem, no hiss, no breakdowns. Nice, rich sounding heads. I can't really see why you'd need more than the wt550's 500 watts at 4ohms (with the right cab/s, that's plenty of power). I recently picked up a second-hand db750 though, and if you want more power and are looking for a clean but fat rock tone, the Aggie's 750 watts at 4ohms is monstrous. I got mine, in immaculate condition, for $1400.00 Canadian.

When I outgrow my wt550 (also a 2005 production model), the Aguilar DB750 is next in line for amp GAS. My wt550 has performed flawlessly for 3-1/2 years straight (even after it was dropped accidentally) but I don't think I'll get another Eden, should I have the need for a bigger amp, based on much of what has happened lately within and outside of Eden.

I think if you find an older 800B you will be good.. It is one very nice sounding amp. Very nice in my opinion.. The C version had allot of issues.. ALLOT.. !!
There are claims that those issues are fixed , but that is not up to me anymore.. Im through with them . And Dave Nordshow is no longer with the company any longer..... I would like to see where he goes in the future and follow him.. There was "rumor" that he has teamed up with another boutuque amp builder in his geographic area.. I am looking forward to see if that Rumor is true.. Dave is a stand up guy.. and great designer.. He just got mixed up with a ****** company that ran the Eden line into the ground for whatever reason it may be

Your starting to scare me.... Thank god the used WT8008 comes with a 24 hour trial period. What should I look for... I'm a guitarist, this head is for my dad... I know nothing about bass rigs.. THANKS EVERYONE.....

The WT550 is a fantastic amp. I think a lot of eden owners love their amps but wouldnt buy another eden just because of other problems they have had with the company.

Well, I never had problems with the company at all, I just don't like what I'm hearing especially on the Eden forums. The one time I had to contact CS they did a great job for (sent out a replacement knob for a loose enhance knob that would pull off completely when I disengaged the compressor). I'm not willing to put money on a new amp that might give me problems (the amp or the company's service).

Excellent way to describe how many folks around here feel. And there are others who currently own and love an Eden product, never had a problem, but...in spite of the good experience are afraid to take a chance on another Eden product. I probably fall into this category. :crying:

M. M.

Until April of this year, I had played Eden gear since 94. I was looking to upgrade with Eden, but after seeing all the different issues with the new gear out there and CS problems I was scared away. My Eden rig was promptly sold and I moved on. I think Eden also lost out big time with the departure of DN.

I used Eden exclusively for many years and it was only when I had two failures in a row (both WT800's) that I started looking elsewhere. I really like the Eden sound generally and love my WT400 - it's one of the best bass amps ever IMO.

It seems the mono amplifiers based on the original designs have proven to be the most reliable and also, accross the board, if you have a working amp from the start, it'll pretty much work forever.

Why DN did the WT1205 the way he did I don't really understand? :( If only he'd build a dual channel WT800B, that would've been a much better amplifier... gain structure exactly the same  just add a mute switch, pre / post DI switch etc. etc. would've been KILLER!

I feel for the guys that have been through the ringer, and also think Eden have lost a LOT of users over the years who really wanted to like the product?

Their cabinets are excellent!

Hey Bass Collectors,
You probably know me as Jesse on the eden forum. I agree except i like the design of the 1205 its just eden has no quality control over the gain. I ordered mine in january and i sent back about 8 of them. I received about 5 or 6 with smashed in logos. 5 or 6 of them had compressors that didnt work. One had a top channel that didnt work at all. One make a horrible noise in the background that also came out the DI. Every single one had different gain settings. Some of them clipped at about 9 or 10 o clock and i had others that clipped all the way up. I had one that clipped at 11 o clock on the top channel and clipped at 3 on the other channel with everything set flat. Everything works properly on the one i have now except for a minor hum in the background which isnt that big a deal. The 1205 is definitely their most problematic amp but eden needs to get their act together for sure.

but don´t sell the 550 if you think you´ve outgrown it ! i own both a wt400 paired with a 210xst and a db750 paired with a db410, and they´re different animals. the have a different sound, but both work for me. and for small venues, the clarity of the wt400/210xst is unbeatable (also the portability, of course).

cheers,
lowstar

Of course not. I love that little amp. I also pair it up with a single D210XST (4 ohm) and it more than fits the bill for my church playing (400 seat room). I've been told by our awesome sound engineer that he lets the rig carry most of the room - he's got the direct signal fairly low through the mains. He's also a bass player so when I'm off he plays and absolutely loves the Eden rig (clarity he says is the biggest improvement over the older Hartke rig they were using before). Our church is growing so when we build our 1200 seat auditorium maybe I'll "need" a DB750 / 410 rig! But seriously, maybe I'll just add another D210xst 4-ohm to push the WT550 to a full 750 watts 2 ohm load (less than half the price for a used DB750).

Here, here. That's all I wanted - a two channel 800, with at least ONE global effects loop; a better DI would have been nice as well. That contraption they built... I don't know what they were drinking/smoking/ingesting. There's 2 of them, used, at L&M right now (Long & McQuade Music - Canada's Guitar Centre, only they're one of the rare NICE corporations, not an evil one), both with different gain structures. :rollno:

:spit:

Guess you never tried a Berg...

Wow, talk about a faithful customer. You deserve a medal, man. And just a thought, maybe the compressors didn't work because the gain wouldn't allow them to kick in - that's what was happening on mine. Once I engaged all the 'boost' buttons, the compressor worked fine, but the amp sounded like ****. And I wouldn't put up with ANY kind of background noise on an amp of that price level, total nonsense - get an 800B and a Radial A/B box with EQ.

What light weight neo cab would you recommend for A WT800B?

People whose judgement I personally trust are raving about the Berg AE 410, and the other AE's in general. I've been using 2 HT112's for years and love them, but am about to go into the IP112ER. The HT112ER's sound even MORE amazing, and although technically not lightweight, at just over 40lbs each, are very manageable.

Having some experience with them, I think the Epi's would be my second choice, although there is a couple of their cabs that I definitely don't like - the 2x12 neo is just wrong, and I'm not too fond of the 3x10; their 4x10 is quite a lovely cabinet, albeit with very 'polite' mids and highs. Nice sounding cab, though. Their 1x12 non-neo is quite a nice cab, but the neo version I'm not enamoured with - too fluffy and woofy, like an underpowered tube amp with totally worn-out tubes. But for about the same price as the Epi's, maybe just a few bucks more, you could have the silky-sweetness and deep, punchy richness of the Berg cabs, with their amazing tweeter/crossover combination, I personally think you'd be nuts to buy any of the Epi's. Nice cabs, but...

There is always a tradeoff in sound with neo's, and I don't think saving 10 lbs on a 1x12 cab makes up for what you're missing soundwise; with a 4x10 or bigger, where the difference is 50+ lbs, I would DEFINITELY go neo. Smaller cabs, well, if you can't lift 40lbs but can do 30, I think you've got some serious issues that need to be addressed.

And on the final topic of the day, in Eden's defence (!!!!!>>><<<!!!!! shocking, I know), I got a phone call out of the blue last week from one of their customer service reps; I haven't dealt with that company at all in a long time, several years, in fact. I guess he saw some of my rants online, and called me up to see if there was anything they could do to rectify the situation. You know, he was a really nice guy, definitely smoothed my feathers a bit, actually APOLOGIZED (!!!!!!!! REALLY shocking!) for all the BS they put me through, for sending me faulty amps and not ever fixing it, and gave me his direct line if there was anything I needed. I thought, wow, maybe they really ARE trying to sort out that freaking mess down there. I told him I was actually quite happy with the 800 (I am, it's a great amp), it's the company that really ****** me off.

That poor guy's got a lot of really tough stuff to get through, and MAN is he ever going to get blasted on that phone, but good for him/them for taking that initiative. All they've ever done with me in the past is pass the buck, delay stuff, lie, or try to figure out a way to blame it all on me, and the thing that really pissed me off is that they were successful to point. A lot of people who didn't follow or read the whole thread thought I was some kind of raving lunatic, which I am, of course, but I really hate it when somebody points it out! :D

Anyway, MAYBE, just maybe, Eden may be turning a corner. Their new customer service rep is definitely a step in the right direction, anyway. Refreshing to not get lied to or yelled at by that company for buying one of their $2,000.00 faulty amps.

:scowl:

Cheers,
Cameron

Wow. That's good to hear. Someone is listening at Eden.

I am a faithful customer although i will never buy a head from them again. I have been compensated so far and im talking I will be talking to lane so more about further compensation. I really have no desire to switch to an 800B although i agree its a great amp but if i where to switch i would go in a different direction. I do agree its total nonsense to have to put up with this s*** in the first place.

Just an fyi to people with hum issues in their Eden WT800c or so. I favored tech of mine and of the NC area had deal with a hum in one of these and I think he has it figured out. He used to be affiliated with US Music but after getting jerked around on payments he basically said CYA because it was not worth his time.

Just saying, give Yontz a shout if you really need help. i doubt the idiots at Eden are going to take care of things.

The saga, sadly, continues.

The repair depot in my city that used to do Eden and dumped then for that has started dealing with them again - the new Canadian rep has guaranteed them fair and proper treatment, so they are taking another stab at it.

Guess they haven't got that far in the States yet, or they burned their bridges SO badly down their there's nothing left to repair.

Can't say I feel sorry for them. They will NEVER get my business again, or that of any of my students, friends, or talkbass buddies if I can help it. I'm so far out of the Eden thing it seems like a lifetime ago.

And their new little micro amp totally blows, IMHO. The worst one I have heard. The Markbass F1, Genz, Tecamp and GK are all quite a bit better, at various price points.

Cheers,
Cameron
