Double Bass Edgar Meyer Tour

Don't know if you were kidding or not, your profile says you are in Chattanooga, so it would be a long drive, but if you really are thinking about it I would suggest you call and make sure there are still tickets available. He is also giving a solo master class the night before, but that is pretty much all I know about it, as I am not a student there.

Grammy award winning artist, Edgar Meyer, cajoles a burnished, resonant voice with his bass. In concert with the UNT Symphony Orchestra, Meyer will perform the Bottesini Concerto No. 2 and the Meyer Concerto. Although classical in nature, the concert will have the distinctive Edgar Meyer gloss - what violinist Joshua Bell calls "Edgar Music" - that has made him America's best-known bass player.

We went to see the Johnson City symphony in Johnson City, TN earlier this month, and they announced that Edgar Myer will be the featured guest artist at their concert on Sat. Nov 17th.
The flier says that the concert is at the Seeger Chapel at Milligan College, and starts at 8 PM. Tickets are $30 for adults, $10 for students.

Definitely alot closer than a trip to Texas...

He's in Madison, WI on the 10th of october and I'm so excited to go see it, and I talked to my bass teacher and he said its very very likely that Edgar would hold a open attendance Master class with Richard Davis, I hope to go, I'm pumped to go see that, maybe Ill get the courage to play in front of him.

He was supposed to play in Edmonton on September 17th with Mike Marshall - but it was cancelled because of poor sales. I would have stood on the corner and sold tickets myself....

Not enough ticket sales for Edgar and Mike?? Geez, Edmonton. Send them to Winnipeg, we'll fill the West End a couple of times for those guys.

Any update on this I'm in town and planning on attending tonight!

He is scheduled to play with the UNT Symphony Orchestra on Oct 3rd at 8pm. This is in Denton, TX, the University of North Texas. He is playing the Bottesini Concerto No. 2 and the Meyer Concerto.

My son told me the concert and master class he gave were excellent.

Just curious who is your teacher?

I went to see Edgar play with Sam Bush and Jerry Douglas on Wed night at the Phillips performing arts center in Gainesville, FL. I've seen Edgar a couple times in the past and this was my favorite. Aside from the group as a whole sounding amazing, Edgar did not play one note out of tune and played some awesome solos including the Amalgamations for Solo Bass movement that's on the Uncommon Ritual CD.

Saw the same ensemble Friday night here in Atlanta. EM great as usual, the trio truly amazing all around. They had lots of fun joking around between songs (tip to young composers, "How do you know when you've finished a song? When the whiskey runs out").

I've never been a huge Sam Bush fan, but seeing the trio made me realize his value as a time keeper. Edgar spent the night facing him like a bassist generally faces a drummer. Jerry Douglas won a lot of hearts here by finishing his solo medley with Duane Allman's "Little Martha".
