Effects / EQ pedal for pasive bass ....

Hi there. I need opinions on this topic. I own a passive bass, no a classic one. Is an Ibanez 5 string EX series. I have owned it for about 20 years. I like the playability, durability ( 20 years talk by themselves, hehe ) and deep sound.

But I have to tell that I like the sound of active basses as well. I tested at least three basses yesterday but I liked mine best in the manufacturing. It is like the craftsmanship of the std basses are being driven by cost.

So, I was thinking... if I need a better shaped, crisp, clear and punchy tone, what if I use a pedal ( effects or EQ ) ???

I asked at Guitar center for the BOSS EQ and for the Seymour Duncan SFX-06 Paranormal Bass EQ Direct Box. The salesman recommended the Seymour Duncan. I have not tried it yet but I'd like to know what do you recommend. I need to say that I'm open to get a new active bass ( I'd like to test the Schecter Guitar Research Stiletto Elite-5 Electric Bass ) if needed.

Suggestions / comments welcome.

Thx !
