Effects for Reggae

Hi, I have been playing bass for 40yrs and never used effects peddles, I now play in tribute band playing UB40 and have purchased a Boss ME50B effects peddle, I am looking for advice and suggestions on the best settings and effects to use, at the moment my bass gets lost in the mix even though my volume is nearly 3/4 my rig consists of a markbass little 3 with a markbass 151p traveller cab my bass is a customised bass with Delano P bass pickups and a fender high mass bridge and di’addario flatwounds

You shouldn’t need a pedal/effect to keep you from getting lost in the mix. This sounds as if it is an issue with your instrument (in which case you might want to look at getting a different bass). I suppose one possibility is that you are dialing in too much bass (thinking “this is reggae so I should max out the bass frequencies). Boosting the bass too much can lead to muddiness - especially if there aren’t enough mids present. The one pedal I would look to in that kind of circumstance is a high pass filter.
