EGC Conclave

Wow. That's amazing man. Congrats. Makes me wish I put a pick guard on mine.

Don't get me wrong frank, you're bass looks absolutely killer. But with a contrasting black/anodized pickguard. Man....I would need one.

In other news Kevin is making me an EGC neck for a black on black 1975 gibson G3 that I snagged for a deal. I'll post pics once It's done, whenever that may be.

I hear ya man. I'm tempted to inquire about how much time and money that would cost. It might totally be worth it. I just got myself a Ric 4003, so I might be able to stand parting with the EGC for a few months.

I just put a deposit down on a 32" with brown stained maple TB2000 body. The only thing I'm not sure about is the pickups... I went with single coil but it looks like a lot of you have gone with the humbuckers. Could one of you chime in and compare the two?

I need a support group for the 12+ month wait ahead... :(

My EGC bass has humbuckers, and they rule. Low-end from hell, clarity in the high freq, loves high-gain, fuzz, distortion and such.
I've tried the single coils as well and I feel they lack a bit in the low end, and doesn't sound that good on high-gain.

I talked to Kevin about humbuckers vs single-coils on my next EGC (T40 project) and his response was:
"I like the humbuckers, balls wit clarity. The single coils have the clarity but lack in the balls department.
I love the Travis Bean basses, but the low end always lacked, sounded great, but all aggression and not enough low end.
The single coils will sound like a Bean. You can always have a humbucker and split it so youre not stuck"

My humbuckers have a single coil tap. I'd say Kevin's description is spot on. I like that my bass has the versatility to do single coil tap, but I prefer humbucker and always use it that way. If you aren't sure, I'd suggest going the same route I did, but I'd highly recommend the humbuckers over the single coil.

I have had humbuckers and single coils and the single's win hands down. you get all the bottom end you need with clarity and it sounds like a tb2000.

The humbuckers push out too much bottom and volume, his single coils are perfect.

something's gonna come through my door soon ... :hyper:

He's got 1/3 of the price he quoted me plus the electronics and hardware I asked him to use for the build.
Did your bass ever arrive? Not sure if you've shared your story in the electricalaudio EGC thread as well- someone there was having the same issues (his order was for some crazy 12 string build) but I think his bass arrived.
Hoping it was yours!

I forgot to add my experience here.

I got my EGC500, this bass is indeed my dream instrument, but I guess this is what pretty much everyone expects.

Now for the not-so-pleasant stuff:

Communication was spotty at best after I completed the downpayment last December. It was supposed to be delivered sometime during the summer, since I would be in the States in September to pick it up.
Well, I got to the States, was one week away from returning home and the bass hadn't even been built yet. I did resort to spamming them both via e-mail and the phone, even ended up changing the return ticket so they had time to deliver the instrument. Worse still, they charged me an extra 20-25$ for 2-day delivery, which I found extremely petty on their part, given I had already paid like 3+ grand and they were the only ones to blame for the huge delay.

I'm guessing high-profile clients don't have to put up with this kind of behaviour, but it leaves a sour taste when you spend this kind of money on a once-in-a-lifetime instrument and you're treated this way.

So a few weeks ago, they sent me back all my stuff. It seems Kevin has someone looking after this stuff a lot more closely now, so that's good.

Not ripped off; not what I ordered, and the process took... 7 years?
