Egyptian Sounding Scale?

I am very intrigued by an Egyptian sounding scale that I had heard from my bass teacher quite a while ago. He mentioned it once to me (the name of the scale, that is) and played it for me, and I thought it was very cool sounding. I was hoping someone knows what I'm referring to and what that would be tabbed out/ configured as. Any help appreciated - Thanks!

Phrygian is usually thought of as sounding "Spanish".
Harmonic minor is often thought of as sounding "Middle Eastern" or "Gypsy".

Do either of those ring a bell?

There is actually an Egyptian scale I believe.

The Middle Eastern sound might be it... ill try out the scale you mentioned Reaver and see if that's what he played.

Yeah, you’re thinking of the harmonic minor. It has an augmented 2nd, which sounds just like a minor third, but it’s not. Take a normal minor scale, and raise the seventh. TADA.

So, for example, in A.

A natural minor scale would be...
A, B, C, D, E, F, G, A

A HARMONIC minor scale would be...
A, B, C, D, E, F, G#, A

Both are played over the same Amin chord.
