Elder - Jack Donovan

I have seen a few photos of Rickenbackers, Jazz Basses and also this black one that I can't identify.

Elder is one of my favourite bands at the moment. When I heard their 2015 album Lore for the first time it completely blew me away. I've seen them live 3 times so far and it's always a treat.

Jack is a very solid bassist. Although he usually takes the back seat as Nick's riffs and solos are the main focus of Elder; his tone, timing and groove are great and fit the band perfectly.

It's Guild Pilot bass, most likely from the 80s, judging by the Jackon-like headstock. I'm not sure what's the exact model as they made a couple of varieties.

Chatted with these guys a few times, & been front row several shows.

I preferred their sound before the past couple years, after adding 2nd guitarist, so haven’t kept up but was really happy for their TOOL tour. Plus TOOL is ine of few, perhaps only band, at that level that rather than charging openers acfee makes sure they can afford to eat and get to next tour stop safely.

Much respect to both bands.

This is Jack in full glory (opening track, 12 min run time):
