Those at talkbass may say you can never have too many, but I'm trying to be a reasonable person and I'm getting my overall bass collection down to 8 basses... or so... I'll be keeping the two on the left.

I’m trying not to get *up* to 8, haha, but there’s a Spectrum GT on reverb right now that matches my car for only $199!

Ahoy, all. I have had at least one Westone since I was 14, but at 37 I have finally figured out that weirdo ‘80s MIJ is my deal, haha. Here’s my Matsumoku stable at present. The hot rod at bottom should have new Gotoh tuners in place of the creaky clovers soon. As you can see, I’m pretty happy with this bunch.

Thank you. I traded an early ‘90s Jackson Concert EX PJ 4-string for that Prestige, and that’s probably the best gear shuffle I have ever made, overall. I’m definitely a bassist first and that Electra at the bottom is on par with some custom instruments at this point (Lace pickup, Gotoh hardware), but I still feel like I should have a through- or set-neck bass on par with that 6-string. My first reverb heartbreak was the black Thunder III that sold for <$600 before I could pull the trigger. So I keep looking, but I’m in great shape for my purposes at this point.

A bit road worn but cool.

I can't believe how good these basses are / were.

I have a Spectrum DX in pearl white, and as I posted in another thread; absolutely standard apart from setup and Ernie Ball cobalts......bought 29 years ago for the massive sum of $189!

Like many of us, in the interim I've had great "name" and "boutique" basses from £600 up to £2000+........and always kept coming back to this cheap but wonderful bass.

The Fenders and Sadowsky's have gone, even the cheaper Yamahas and Ibanez have gone, they just can't stack up against the little, 1 pickup standard DX.

It might be a 'one off'? The guitar tech I use also agrees it is something a bit special with an unexpected action, playability and tone.

I won't be selling anytime soon!

I casually have my eye on one just like this. Thrilled with my Matsumoku 4-strings, but the 5s came later and I wonder if they were built to the same standards.

yep, there's a few online right now for dirt money and my questions are along the same vein as you mention. as we've seen, there seems to be no 'bad' Westone / Electra basses, just examples which are even better players and more equipped, I was hoping the necks on these were skinnier and I've read they're chunkier than an Ibby but then those are typical pencil necks so I won't know til I have one in my hands. then again, maybe they made varying grades of neck shapes. the Vs have the good PUs which is promising.

How about an Electra, and a Westone? MPC Outlaw, and Spectrum LX. Yep... I have the fretless neck, also.

They weigh a TON, My back sometimes hurts. But...

Why does the Spectrum LX weigh so much? My lightest bass (with a headstock; I also have a Rail) is a Spectrum GT that looks just like that, minus two knobs. Is it all preamp?

The Electra X700JB in my profile image weighs a ton, but once I swapped out the hardware for Gotoh stuff, it became surprisingly well balanced.

Actually... it weighs 8.5lbs. Built like a tank, and very well balanced. It's the Electra that is heavy. It's put away at the moment, but... I'll weigh it later. I just happen to have the Westone out at the moment, as I just switched it to fretless for some recording that I'm gonna do later next week. Deciding if I'm gonna use IT, or My Bartell.
Here She is, fretless.

I've got a Spectrum fretless neck that was probably part of a similar set. I'm not aware of any other company ever offering such a cool combo. :thumbsup:
