Those Raiders are beautiful, would love to find one. There is another guy around here who posted his in the vintage Japanese bass thread a few years back, it was a Raider with the blue metallic finish, stunner of an instrument and a great 80s artifact.

Hi Everyone,

Longtime Matsumoku fan. I have had a Futura XJ700Jb for over ten years. Got her in pretty rough shape from Guitar Center back in 2007. Restored her and had a fresh coat of metal flake red put on. I also just picked up a X630N off of eBay today. Picking it up from a pawn shop in Kenner, LA (about 50 miles from me) can't wait to get her home tonight to go through it and get it in top shape. A nice addition to my collection.

I've been on TB for a couple years now and never new about this thread. Very cool. Here's the thread from my first ever post on TB. Trying to figure out what this bass was is what led me to discover TB. Turned out to be a 1976-ish Electra Corsair 2276. Fun stuff!

Kind of a shame they ditched the original P’ups. I’ve never heard a P configuration that has any more balls than the OE pickup in my 630. They look to be built like a Dimarzio model P, but less midrange and more bottom end

Hi, I'm happy to join this very select club with the recent purchase of a black Westone Spectrum GT (same as DanAdams, but black, I'll post pictures some day). I was looking for a new bass on the cheap (to replace my Gibson SG bass with something less expensive), and I was aware of the good reports about Westone. They are not too common here in france. When I had a chance I grabbed one for the price of the cheapest Squier. Now I find myself with a bass that is exceeding my expectations: wonderfull neck, excellent sustain, power and wide range of tones, from agressive rock to the fattest low end. That's with 30 years old strings. This bass was probably untouched during the last 20 years and barely needs a setup.

Those at talkbass may say you can never have too many, but I'm trying to be a reasonable person and I'm getting my overall bass collection down to 8 basses... or so... I'll be keeping the two on the left.

I'm also kinda bummed about the non original pickups on the 630, but I'm happy to report that the replacement sounds fantastic.

Back in 2015 I made my debut on bass with a Thunder 1A. Is heavy and necky-heavy, but sounds pretty good.



I play a Squier P with that band now, but the Thunder lives on in my home studio.

Ahoy, all. I have had at least one Westone since I was 14, but at 37 I have finally figured out that weirdo ‘80s MIJ is my deal, haha. Here’s my Matsumoku stable at present. The hot rod at bottom should have new Gotoh tuners in place of the creaky clovers soon. As you can see, I’m pretty happy with this bunch.

I am envious of anyone who has a Rail. I remember very briefly seeing one in a shop in the 80s, probably the same shop where my Spectrum GT came from. They also had one of those flying-V Westone basses which are also pretty scarce now.

But I'd love to get a Rail someday. Never mind those Steinbergers, the Rail is the bomb.

I was probably 17 when my mother and I randomly discovered a music store in Hudson, Wisconsin on our way back from the airport and saw the Rail on the wall for $150. Ma said, “Well, you’ve *got* to have that.” That didn’t mean she was paying, haha! Even so, she was right and I bought it on the spot. I figured as it was already headless and bodiless, it might as well be fretless, too. I play it with an EBow these days.
