ElectroVoice ELX 112P X Powered Live 2-Way Speaker, (1000 W, 1x12 in.)

Looking at buying a pair of these for mains at smaller gigs and monitors at larger ones.

Wondered if anyone could give me some feed back on them!

I know nothing, but watch out on the power output
500W to lows
500w to highs crossover at 1.7k

It's really effectively a 600w amp at most.
Plenty of power but this kind of advertising bugs me.
QSC does it also.

EV makes good stuff, but go check them out in person. "Mains" they're not. PA for vocals, sure. Add a sub or two and they could work for mains.

I own a few

I obsessively couldn't decide between k12 and livex

My vendor of choice stopped my k12 order

He pointed out that after eq they would be similar.... With the saved money I could add a driverack or extra k12

I do sometimes pair them with a pair of dbtechnologies subs

Only issue I've had was thermal shutoff ---- 110 degree day in direct sun

I assume you are playing smaller clubs since you aren't mic'ing bass and drums. But with the subs you should start bringing the bass and at least kik, snare and an OH mic into the mix so that the sound coming from the PA sounds like it is "in the mix" instead of in the room. Plus the subs are worthless to you without putting instruments that really make use of the subs.

I really like the ELX sound wise, the QSC K-series stuff is dynamite. I wound up going with the JBL PRX boxes using the 3-way tops and the heavier duty XLF sub. We run full band through it (we're country-rock) so we can get away with it. If your set list relies on Megadeath-ish metal, You'd probably want to double your shopping list to be heard in the way you want to be heard. None of the self powered boxes in that price range are really meant to carry a metal act.

A 4-piece plays music more like SRV, Mustang Sally and Brown Eyed girl....and you'd be just fine with the ELX. They are the most reasonable priced self powered rigs around. Far superior to Mackie's and lesser known "B" type brands. But they are a little light in the loafers compared to the QSC and JBL boxes, but as mentioned, they are priced accordingly.

Yes we are playing smaller clubs with our own PA, the larger clubs and casinos have a house PA... I would like to add subs at some point but like most, money is in short supply!!

We don't have a lot of money but don't want to by junk....

I"ve done a 3 piece... all direct.. with subs...

Sounded like we were playing in a recording studio.....

I do restaurant size gigs with just one.. everyone direct... no subs.. 100% control over the levels.

I'll reiterate... I could "slightly" hear the difference... the sales rep suggested the EV+ a drive rack (yes it did make a differnce)... his point was then to run the EV in an array to have a fully scaleable PA.

To run ours correctly we had to rethink preconceptions of pro sound... I can now be setup (or tear down) within 30 minutes.. no rushing.. no hurrying... no stress.

My deciding factor was visiting a pro sound store (no GC isn't one) ... the ones that ONLY sell PA gear. As leaving I was speaking with a career sound enginner (full time for decades)... I asked him....

He kindly said.. "I've researched both (k12 and livex) ... have owned gear from both companies...... weighing all the factors - I'd be going EV if spending my money"

I know the venues he's in charge of and immediately quit searching.

Hey, all, we've been working with the EV ELX 112P, as well as the 115P & the 118P for close to a year. Price is killer, & pound for pound they do a great job. They were designed to compete directly against JBL, & they've done the job. You'll always find arguments in either direction to not use A, or B, but I like the simple performance method. EV has a smooth linear response, with very little coloration. EV is my pick hands down. I've worked with Community, Martin, JBL, Mackie, Peavey & numerous other high end FOH systems. Just my thoughts, folks. :D:bassist:
