Elf 110 combo , who is giging one , and questions .

Ok these have been around awhile and i am sure some have came and went , most of the time i play lead but sometimes get a call to play bass in some older country bands , small places like Sr centers , Elks lodges ETC . Most of the settings are singer , lead player easy hitting drummer , so , iam realy entreged with this combo thats 18 pounds in my older age , anyone had this combo a while now and done these types of gigs without PA support needed ? Tone be ok with flatwoulds for some older country stuff ? So lets hear your experiance with these please , i also know in the future i could add a extra 110 cab to it which i would guess would be a good noticeable improvement . Thanks .

I think it would serve you quite well. I'm not gigging the combo, but I have a 2x8" cab and an Elf head that I use for all my smaller gigs in very similar setting as you. Four piece, sax, guitar, reasonable volume drummer and myself. Plenty loud and full sounding. I've used it in a couple medium sized restaurant/bar rooms too. Had to push it a little bit in those rooms, but still loud enough and didn't sound taxing on the 'lil Elf.

I gigged my buddy's Elf head with 2x8 in the same situation and it worked just fine. Not my favorite sound in the world but it was still pleasant and never felt like I wanted something else while I was at the gig.

A friend of mine uses one with upright and it always sounds great. He seems to always have enough volume.

I enjoyed using the Elf amp and 2-1x10 cabs for a year or so , go with two cabs versus one .

Mine was very "high-mid" forward.

Wasn't a fan, tbh but if I NEEDED a superlight combo (i.e. my back would not permit me to move anything else) I would have lived with it and dialed the high-mids way down.

Edit: I don't think it's the fault of the cab or amp. I believe this to be the pre-amp, as I had similar results using the Trace Transit B into a PA.

I've gotten great mileage from an elf head with either an Ampeg svt210 or PF110 cab. Similar situations to what you describe. I actually prefer the tone of the 110, but use the 210 when a more aggressive midrange voicing and /or volume is needed.

I used the Elf Head with an Elf 1-10 cab. Sold the cabinet and kept the head.
Using it with an Acme Low B1 and it works great.

Not a fan of the TE tonality, in general, but in similar situations I enjoy using my 1x8 Elf combo. 17 lbs and more than adequate, esp with balanced out available if the drummer gets out of hand. With a 2x8" cab, it really comes on line, but I have other options that sound better if I need more.

So, horses for courses: if it were my only combo, I don't really know, but for the nursing home gigs, etc., it's a good fit.

I gig with one occasionally. I'm in a country band and for small to medium venues it's fine. Plug it into the house system and it becomes an excellent stage monitor.

Just got one today , great little amp , i have a couple small gigs in Oct . coming up to try it on , i may get a extra 10 inch cabnet for it , but want to try one gig with out it .
