Elixir strings anyone? Here's what my brother told me...

I put a new 95-40 set of elixir nickel nanowebs, and I was blown away. Much tighter sound, than previously used DR Pure Blues (those dies after 1 week), and my to-go DAddario balanced tension XLs. Also, winding feels more like DR Lo-Riders, but I like the feel of this nanowebs more! So easy to slide and also easier on fingers!
Btw, nickel compounds is considered as cancerogenic. So it is good to have coating against some of aggressive metals!

Now this is an old tread but, I purchased a set (Nickel) yesterday to try after reading and reading about them due to my sweat and "finger food" between the windings.

I'll kill a set of uncoated in a week sometimes no problem, they sound bright and zingy enough for me!

I just hope they last more then a few weeks.

In the past, I kept the same set of Elixir nickel Nanowebs on my only bass for almost a year and only the last month or so did I notice that they were starting to sound dead as the coating really started flaking. I've had a set on my Dingwall Super P5 for a couple months and they sound just like they did when I installed them. They aren't for everyone, they don't start off as brand new sounding when you put them on, they sound like they've been played for a a week or two. But that's perfect for some of my basses.

Sounds good to me! I’ve killed a set after one gig a few times!

Well I guess I must have gotten lucky because the set I put on my jazz sound really springy and bright!

I used Elixirs on my guitars for probably 15 years - nanoweb. I could leave them on a guitar for years if I only used it occasionally. I bought a used Carvin with a set of Cleartone strings and found that they felt better and offer the same longevity and I switched over about 3 years ago.

I liked them on bass, but prefer Fodera strings if I’m playing in a lower register.
