I currently own a Squier VM Mustang Bass.
Until recently, I was turned off by roundwounds because of their zinginess and finger noise and stuck with flatwounds. However, I have been interested in playing music by bands that have a distinctly roundwound sound in their basslines (Rush, Journey, the Who, Red Hot Chili Peppers, etc.) and I wanna give roundwounds one last chance. Since I have nylon tapewounds on my acoustic bass (in addition to a homemade bass ukulele), I can always use that for flatwound-oriented songs.
The problem is that I still want to use rounds that not only have less finger noise and zing, but will also last a long time since I am on a budget.
This is where the question comes in. Does anybody know if the Elixir coated bass strings would work on a Mustang Bass? I ask because they appear to only make them in long scale.
If this doesn't work, do you know of any medium-scale coated roundwounds that I can use on the Mustang that doesn't peel off (I have heard that this is a problem with many brands of coated strings)?

I have decided that I'm going to use the D'Addario XL nickel wound strings that came with my bass when I first got it (I replaced them with D'Addario Chromes, but I kept them as backup strings) and I am also going to experiment with GHS Pressurewounds
